I was hoping to get some advice about buying a cayman. Is it possible to pick up a descent model for around 20,000? also is a 2005 3.4 s with 95000 on the clock to high in terms of milage. i dont really no if more milage on a performance car is worse. any help would be greatly appr
echiated. thanks

lewiboy, don't know much about caymans but 95000 on a 4 year old car is high mileage especially on a Porsche. Average on an ordinary car is 10-12k per year so 20k plus is high.

Average mileage on a Porsche is circa 8k pa.

Buying any Porsche should be on condition and history. Condition is relatively easy but consider a PPI (proffessional inspection with a Porsche specialist) such as Peter Morgan. Best £3-400 you will spend.

History should be ideally full service history from OPC or respected indie. At that mileage you should be thinking about clutch and when was it last changed. This could cost c. £2k +! Also brakes/discs, belts etc so get versed with the maintanance of a cayman to see what is due soon. If your buying from a respected specialist it should be well presented but don't assume so.

Post some examples and people will give their valued opinion.

My final question is why not a 911? You can get a 996 for £20k and will get many more smiles :thumb:

Try Channel 5. 5th GEAR are giving one away for a £1 phone call.

Good Luck

thanks pete, i will definatly post some ones im thinking of to get some feedback off the forum. as for the 996 question, i want my son on the Insurance and as it is in a lower bracket it suits better also for 20k your probly lookin at a 10year old car now, i want something a little newer as i dont know squat about cars and would probly be getting ripped off by the dealer all the time... even better if anyone comes across something they think is a ood buy let me know, cheers all!
