Hi,
I am looking to buy a Boxter for £17-18k. Please can you guys point me in the right direction??.....

standard or s? (whats the performance difference etc)
what to look out for?
any other useful stuff?

Thanks

Welcome and Hi :bye:

You'll get a really nice new shape Boxster 2.7 or maybe a 3.2S. They are both brilliant to drive in either manual or Tiptronic. The new shape Boxster is a bit roomier than the old and if you are a tall it's a big bonus.

They handle and drive better than almost any car and if you do get the 3.2S they will easily keep up with the pack to around 170mph as was proved last year when we had Harold in his Boxster chasing us to the Ring.

Best to test drive them both and see what you think as there is nothing wrong with the 2.7 unit and it might be alot better than you think.

Regards, Marcus

Has to be a 3.2 S, with full leather

For Me it would have to be the S. More power  At least half sec quicker to 62mph and 2/3 sec's quicker to 100mph.

Auto Car's web site (autocar.co.uk) have good write up's on both cars, with all the performance data you need.

good Luck

The S is tangibly quicker, better specified and has 6 gears (only optional on the 987 2.7) and stronger brakes IIRC, so would be my choice. That said, the 2.7 is still a great drive and if you are strictly road (vs track) driving then you could argue that it is still fast enough for most...

You could of course pick up a 911 at that price......

Very good 964
993 is possible
996 can also be done.

I know its a personal decision but IMHO youd be buying a better car with potentially less depreciation.
