As someone thats only ever run warm-hot versions of mainstream cars, before making the big jump into more specialist car, feedback on the real cost of running a 3 year old Boxster or Boxster S would be appreciated.

Whilst its easy to work out Insurance, road tax, its harder to work out the maintenance, reliability/durability etc, so your advice guys and gals would be greatly appreciated....

Cheers

Chris

A 3 year old Boxster would put you in the 987 category. They are very good cars, reliable, durable; OPCs have a fixed price servicing schedule which you will be able to get a booklet on. If you're used to hatchbacks, then expect to sacrifice versatility, ie you can't carry your mates etc here and there as you might have done previously. However, you do get 2 boots!

You will enjoy wide service intervals and low running costs I would expect. Modern, current generation Porsche's are very reliable. It is always worth checking however where the car is in it's service schedule. At 3 years old, depending on mileage it might be due its first major service so try and find one that has already had it done or isn't due for 10,000 miles or so.

thanks for the commnts so far, the warranty thing seems to add significantly to the running costs, but I'll keep doing my home work.

not worried about the versitality really as we have a small hatch in the household so can live with 2 small boots :)

I took out a Tesco Warranty. I opted for the top package as it covers more parts, and covers £350 of the first MOT....which I have in 3-4 months. Price circa £400, although the cheapest package was only £250'ish...interest free payments too.

Just dug my car out of the deep snow at the in-laws today and drove home with little incident. Love the Boxster, in these conditions I averaged over 34mpg....generally get 30 mpg and that's giving it some stick.

Treat yourself, bet you can get a hell of a deal just now.
