Schedule Budapest
Friday 01.08.2008 17.00 - 17.45 Uhr Free practice
Saturday 02.08.2008 12.25 - 13.10 Uhr Qualifying
Sunday 03.08.2008 11.35 - 12.20 Uhr Race

The Hungaroring is located about 20 kilometres away from the centre of the Hungarian capital Budapest. The Hungarian F1 Grand Prix with its first edition in 1986, visited by almost 300.000 spectators, wrote history as the first huge motorsports event in the Eastern bloc at this time.

Due to its high Grip standard and the often high summery temperatures in this area, the 4.381 kilometres long and curvy race track is known for its high tyre wear. On the Hungaroring a good result in the Qulifying is inevitable since the narrow circuit allows hardly any overtaking during the race.

Warming up – Huisman claims Fridays best time

At very summery temperatures around the 30° degrees Celsius Patrick Huisman with a 1.50.132 minutes lap and a lead of 0.415 seconds fetched the best time in the free practice for the 9th round of the Porsche Mobil Supercup. Danny Watts and Marco Holzer are the pursuers behind the record champion. Positions 2 to 20 within only one second.

"It was quite clear that we would claim a good result today, because I could make good use of an almost fresh set of tyres we've got left from Hockenheim", Patrick Huisman explained. "However, I am not satisfied at all, because I didn't manage to put all sectors in a row." The 41-years old Dutchman, who could claimed already three pole positions (1998, 2005, 2006) in Budapest, is followed by Danny Watts and Marco Holzer, who are about 4/10 of a second behind. Both have been on the Hungarian GP Circuit for the very first time. "I only know the track from the Playstation and from a foot walk yesterday evening", Marco Holzer says full of pride. "I also didn't have any kilometre of experience here, before the free practice today", Danny Watts, who ranks second, says. "I tried to study the circuit as good as possible during the session, but the 45 minutes passed very fast. The car is brilliant, but the heat is dreadful. Never before in my life had I drunk so much within two hours." One tenth of a second behind the Brit, Marco Holzer ranks third. 'To be honest, I am surprised about third position", the 20-year-old admits. "Until the half time of the session it went good and than I got a better set of tyres and could improve once again."

Damien Faulkner, the team-mate of Danny Watts, finished fourth. The fourfold fastest of the Fridays sessions this season is about half a second behind the best time, but with a small advantage of 4/100 of a second still in front of the leader in the driver standings of the Supercup, Jeroen Bleekemolen. Martin Ragginger, Sean of Edward and new entry Jà¶rg Hardt are following on positions six to eight. Primarily Hardt delivered a convincing performance. "The track is almost new to me", the substitute for Jiri Janak says. "I have never been here driving a Porsche, my knowledge is based on races in the Formula Renault and the Formula 3 in the years 2000 and 2003." The Top10 of the free practice session are completed by the former UPS Porsche Juniors Jan Seyffarth and Lance David Arnold.

Except Patrick Huisman, who has got an advantage of 0,415 second, the cars on the first 20 positions are within one second. "And we will be considerably quicker tomorrow", Huisman says. "I expect times below the last year's best time, what means some deep 1:48 minutes laps." The Qualifying for the ninth round of the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup will be delivered on Saturday, 12.25pm until 13.10pm.

Faulkner wins in Hungary heat

With a lead of 0.928 seconds Damien Faulkner wins the 9th round of the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup in Budapest. Jeroen Blekemolen finished second, third on the podium is Patrick Huisman. Faulkner, with a gap of 40 points to Bleekemolen, takes over second rank in the driver standings of the championship.

Second win this season: Damien Faulkner

With a brilliant start Damien Faulkner and Jeroen Bleekemolen got into the race, gaining an advantage of about one second already in the first lap and extended the gap to the pursuers during the race up to seven seconds. 'After our solid 4th rank in Hockenheim I had a great car again toady. As a driver you have no success on your own, you need a real good team to have it", race winner Damien Faulkner praises his Lechner crew. 'It's a great day for Damien and the whole team. We have worked hard for this success, to win the home race is a great thing", so team manager Walter Lechner. 'It's even more valuable, because we took over the lead in the team standings of the championship." Like his team manager, Damien Faulkner looks back to a race without any problems. "I had a very good start and after that a fault-free race.

I knew that Jeroen (Bleekemolen) would not attack me too hard, because he's fighting for the title". The Dutchman crossed the start and finish just behind the double winner of this season. 'A Good race – a bad start", summarizes Bleekemolen, who now leads the championship with an advantage of 38 points. 'Damien had a perfect weekend and deserved the victory", the championship leader of the team Jetstream Motorsport praises his Irish opponent. 'My advantage in the championship is now big enough to fight for victorys in the remaining races."

The history of the race in Budapest is written by the drivers behind. Holzer had a bad start and droped back a number of positions. 'I was a bit nervous, because never before I started with the Porsche so far in the front", Holzer admits. At this time his team mate Martin Ragginger already retired in the tyre barriers. Already in the first lap he had an collision with Jan Seyffarth.

While Seyffarth could go on, Ragginger's race was over. 'One thing I have to say very clear; Jan was completely innocent at the accident. He himself got a hit in the back of his car and had no chance to avoid the crash", Ragginger protects the former Porsche Junior. "For me the impact into the tyre wall was the most serious accident in my career." Seyffarth, who finished the race on 17th position, dropped back in the championship on rank four.

In the leading group Patrick Huisman, Danny Watts, David Saelens, Jaap van Lagen, Chris Mamerow, Marco Holzer, René Rast and Jà¶rg Hardt battled for the Top-10 positions. With a gap of about eight seconds Patrick Huisman finished third. The fourfold Supercup champion had a brilliant start from fifth position. 'Yes a real good start and I am really happy that I could claim the first podium finish for Irwin Racing this year." Huisman, who already won the Budapest race three times, says.

Behind the Dutchman Danny Watts and David Saelens ranked on fourth and fifth. Watts, who is the SAS Lechner team mate of Damien Faulkner, as well as Saelens, who drives for Irwin Racing, had a good start. After the first corner they could close the gap to DAMAC Kadach driver Jaap van Lagen. In lap four both could take advantage of a damaged cooler at the Dutchmans car, who retired from the race. 'My race was pure fun, primarily the fight with Marco Holzer. A quick youngster who drives really fair. As long as he is behind me, he is very welcome", the Belgium old hand laughs.

Marco Holzer, Lance David Arnold, René Rast, Jà¶rg Hardt and Chris Mamerow finished on positions six to ten. Guest driver Mike Verschuur, who fetched both, his personally best Supercup result as well as the best result of the HSF team, finished on eleventh rank.

After a break of three weeks the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup goes into it's 10th round of the year in Valencia (ESP) from August 22nd to 24th. For championship leader Jeroen Bleekemolen it's the first chance to claim title prior to the end of the season.
