Hi all this is my first post here so i hope it is in the right place

I am loking at buying my first porsche a 911 to be exact i have seen an ad on ebay

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1982-PORSCHE-...oryZ9860QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

although the car is advertised on pistonheads and autotrader,
basically what im after is for your opinions on this porsche is it a good buy from the ad on ebay its described as a carrera replica im assuming its still a porsche but made to look like a better model. as you can probably tell im new to porsche and need all the help i can get so thought this was the best place to ask also any other areas of the 911 i should check out for when viewing would be much apprieciated also if anyone knows of or is selling a good condition 911 within my £10000 budget would again be much appriciated.

Bit of a Corrado theme building up tonight?!

Welcome!

Firstly I suggest you plenty of research into 911s before considering buying one.

As you say this is a '82 911 that has been rebuilt with later parts to make it into a 964 look alike.

Personally I'd buy an original car that hasn't been messed around with. You'll need to know alot about 911s or have it inspected to ensure you're not buying a liability.

GO AND SEE IT AND PAY FOR AN INSPECTION.....WOULD BE £200 WELL SPENT

Is there quality, i currently own a 2.0l 16v VW Corrado but really likin the 911!!

The money that ive got for any 911 i will probably never be lucky enough to have again so i will definitly be having a vehicle inspection check probs by the RAC but really need some buying advice and also a good example to start looking at!

the porsche advertised on ebay is that about right price wise, from reading the autotrader and pistonheads advert its a trade ad is it over priced for what it is would it loose value in time thanks again
So why is your profile Corrado VR6?!? :?

because with 7795 users on the corrado forum its hardly surprising that corrado 16v was taken

although for sum strange reason vr6 was still available when i joined in 2006 :D

Ditto to the advice from 964RS, a 964 bodied 3.0SC could be a bargain but is still a complex car so needs to be trated as such.

AND DON'T GET IT INSPECTED BY THE RAC - GET IT INSPECTED BY A PORSCHE SPECIALIST!!!!

If its ok then its a bit of a bargain....and you need to have a couple of k set aside for ongoing maintenance each year anyway

That car looks absolutely gorgeous in Guards Red...I'm tempted to bid for it myself...!

7k seems cheap to me be cautious.

It does look very nice!.......but I'm with DPJ on this one, be wary, all 911's look great!....so easy to let the heart rule the head. If it is good a Pre purchase inspection will tell you so. But, as others have said, get a Porsche specialist to do the inspection. Good luck with your hunt!!

My first thought was that this may be a cat D (or even cat C) write off and re-shelled as a 964 (hence the £35,000 worth of bills?)

Not necessarily a problem if it's that cheap - you won't loose much even if advertising it as a rebuilt write off - but a proper thorough inspection would be absolutely vital!!!!

Good luck.

The price looks OK but I'd like to know what the £35,000 was spent on. Especially given that the heat exchangers don't work and neaver have. This would suggest either that the exhaust needs changing (£1000 for a decent SS one) or that the butterfly valves are buggered.

Also you need photos of the A and B pillars also around the lights to check for rust. Also need to check on the sills, kidney areas and around the screen as these are where the 911SC rust first it seams. mind you with a recent paint job this all could be covered up.

In the recepts section look to see if the cluch has been changed or any major engine work.

Given the mileage the shocks will be shot and should be replaced. Additionally to improve the stearing the Turbo stearing kit should be added.

Good to see it's got a strut brace.

Hopefully some of this has been done in the £35,000 spent. Strange that after this sort of cash the heating does not work.

Also if it has a SS exhaust be careful as there are SS with Galvanised end exhausts out there that last about 2 years (I know because my old mechanic who will remain nameless at this stage put one on my car saying it was full SS and the only ones available - I now have a decent Porsche Specialist who replaced it for a propper sport SS one)!

I bought my 911SC through ebay about 3 years back and have had a fair bit done to it to bring her back to full life so if I can help let me know.

Hope this helps

Cheers 8)

Oh one more point I ment to say. Long term I'd always go for a 911SC that has not been doctored to look like something it is not. If you want an SC buy an dSC if you want a 964 get a 964.

Cheers 8)
