fuel gauge and oil level gauge not working properly.

will be checking non-intrusive stuff first obviously, but if it comes to it:

I've found good links with pics for removal of fuel level sender, cleaning and replacing amd fuel gauge sender unit check/replace

found good link with pics for oil level level sender, but unfortunately after replacing sender unit, the guy cut the existing cable and bodges a joint.

Does anyone know where the other end of this cable goes to, and is it practical to follow it through with the new cable, or did he bodge it, (His words, not mine). cos that was a practical thing to do.

Also found links for gauge removal and replacement, if all else fails.
cheers

I had my mech change the oil level sender when i had my clutch changed. That way it is easy to run the cable so i think its an engine out job, hence the botch job th po did! On porsche964.com i think they also say it is easier to just cut the cable.

By the way, apparently to get the sender out is a right PITA. It was rusted to the tank pretty solid and took ages to remove. You cant put to much pressure when trying to lever it off incase you damage the tank.

Thanks for that.

I think it will be a job for the specialist. I'm not a 'purist' in the OTT sense, just don't like introducing weak links into a system.

After all, I have to use the dipstick for a more accurate reading anyway !

cheers
