Another question:
I always have my cars serviced by a main dealer.
So my question is:
How often do these cars need servicing.
Is there a major service, if so at what milage and how much for a major.

Lower mileage car better than getting a higher milage? i'll be putting 8k a yr on it.

On the 996, servicing is at 12k (minor), 24k (major) intervals, 48k you'll get new plugs, every 2 years brake fluid needs changing.

Depending on the year of the 996, a service could be 12 or 24 months.

If you visit www.porsche.com/uk , go to the 'Find a Porsche Centre', choose your local one, then go to Porsche Services, at the bottom of the list is the Pricing, have a look, there's lots of 'additional' items to consider :)
 
and it also depends on which 996 you have, did not the later cars have a variable service ?

No, just an increase to the time between services 12 to 24 months :)

I wouldn't necessarily be too wedded to main dealer servicing. It is considerably more expensive, and with a 996, as long as the service history is with a respected specialist will make no difference to the value.

911's apparently book at 7k miles a year- ideally therefore, get a lower miles one so by the time you come to sell it'll be spot on. However, as with all these things, buy on condition, and low miles cars can have issues with brakes, dry seals etc.

Which model year did the service change to variable please? I'm guessing it's MY 2004+?

If you have a specialist service the car doesn't that mean you cannot extend the warranty from Porsche?

If you have a specialist service the car doesn't that mean you cannot extend the warranty from Porsche?

Provided Porsche approved parts are used your warranty will remain intact, however you will need a 111-point check to renew the warranty each year.
 
oh ok i see.
I'm looking for a c4s, 2002 onwards.
Was hoping to find a 2003/04 with reasonable amount of mileage.
Poss around the 30k miles mark.
I'm still looking around, and have a few people looking around for me.
Interesting point regarding the lower miles however brakes problem, never thought of that.
I'm going to look out for one which has done reasonable mileage.
