Air Con Smell?

Last week or so noticed that when I start the car and air con kicks in there is a dodgy smell for 20seconds or so while the air con settles down. Strange thing is that it isn't every time I start the car. Any ideas?

Thanks

Refridgerant leaking into the air stream through an exchanger?

Usually propane or similar is used as refridgerant and it has it's own mild hydrocarbon odour

Sounds serious. Would this be covered under warranty?

How would you describe it? Chemical smell or more 'bacterial' smell?

It could be just as simple as getting the system serviced.

Is it still producing lots of cold air?

Suppose i've guessed at the worst case scenario. Could be something far more insignificant. I would, however, have it looked at by an air-con expert to test for leaks.

Good luck

Do you use your aircon all the time? Try the following.....just before you reach home switch off the aircon turn the heater to max (HI) and leave it like that for a few minutes until you get home. Ok you'll be bloody hot but it should help with the smell.

yeah aircon should be ran both hot and cold to get rid of the bugs in there apparently, that includes cold in winter and hot in summer even though its not pleasant.....

This lot have had a couple or rave reviews in mags if you can be bothered to traipse down to Dorset.
