I was hoping that somebody could help me here. I am the recent proud owner of a 2000 model C4 Manual with GT3 Mk1 Sport design OEM wheels. The tyres on the back are 265 30 18's. I have looked at a couple of others over the past 6 months and they had 285 30 18's. Since I need to replace the current rears.....what is the correct size I should fit? They are Continentals...

Many Thanks

i beleive that you can put either on, i used to have some, and used 285's

Depends on the width of the wheels. Sport Designs came in 3 widths:

7(f) and 9(r) - Boxster fitment
7.5(f) and 10(r) - 996 fitment
8(f) and 10(r) - Mk1 GT3 fitment

285 section tyres will only safely fit on the 10" rear wheels.

If you have the 9" rears, go with 265

You can tell what width wheels you have if you look by the stamped numbers next to the valve stems. One number will be the offset, whilst the other number will be either 9J or 10J telling you the wheel width.

Some tyres (like Dunlop SSRs which are no longer available) were a very wide 265 tyre and they fitted on the 10" rear ok.

Many Thanks for your help here. Is there any way I can ascertain the size of the Rear Wheel on my car, i.e. is there any visible notification on the size.

Kind Regards

Yes, as per my post above, the width is stamped by the valve stems.

Well I hope I open my eyes better when I'm driving! Thanks again! I have 10J's on the back so its 285's for me! Any ideas where I can save a few bob on tyres? Continental N2's still mind you though.

Regards

Bracknell Tyres are the cheapest in the country. Thankfully they also know what they are doing!

Alternatively, try Micheldever a try. Both very popular outfits.

Good luck!
