chassis plate wanted

Claire, welcome to the forum -

Sorry to do this but as you have mates in the 'rebuilding old cars' business, I guess you considered that the car you bought may not be original with the chassis number merely painted on?

I am pretty sure that you will have to satisfy Porsche that your car is the same one - I guess they will have to check the engine and gearbox etc. to confirm originality? so it sounds like a visit to the OPC as suggested by SMTK -

Re the babygrow would this do the trick?

PS You got me curious there - what is the 'unusual' colour? - how about a photo?

Cheers, LJ

I didn't want to shut you up! sorry if my posting was defensive, I guess if I put my brain in it did look suspect and I don't want you to think I am dodgy. Everything else is absolutely perfect on the car and it participated in the Brands Hatch record attempt last year. I am going off topic as this is supposed to be for parts for sale/wanted but porsche's are so good, everything works. I do have 17" aftermarket wheels on the car with the original 15" fuchs in the loft. It drives great but does anyone think this is a mistake or could cause problems?

Claire

LJ ~ Flabber is officially ghasted.

Morning Claire. I'll be interested to see comment on wheels. I was advised to stay clear of a 3.2 with larger dia. wheels as the wings should be rolled to accept them. Someone else said that this was ... a weighty amount of certain boys bits.

I suppose the important bit is to keep the circumference of the tyre the same otherwise the gearing, speedo and odometer will be thrown out. According to other posts, ride comfort also changes because lower profile tyres do not absord the impact in the same way.

Handling may improve because of less flex in tyre wall but most "purists" (including me) will probably say stick with the originals. What ever rocks you boat is probably okay.

If you join PCGB you can get a lot of free advice from other SC owners, the SC registrar and tame specialised mechanics.

PCBG may be the right way to go in sorting out the chassis plate. The chassis number and engine numbers are stamped on the componenents in case the plate goes AWOL.

Lady owner ~ Young Child ~ I think a youff would say RESPECT :)

Welcome Claire

I can't see any problem having a chassis plate made up, assuming it is all properly Documented and checks out with the cars records from Porsche. As above, I'd suggest the relevant registers in the Porsche Club GB as a good port of call.

911s are really the only proper choice for a family in a hurry!

Plenty of others have used 17s on their SCs, just make sure the geometry checks out.

The beauty of Porsches is that they are ideally suited for modification and tweaking to just as you want them. Let's face it, they are not rare cars, and modification of them is very much in the spirit of the marque as it was and don't let anyone tell you different!

Robert.

Robert makes a good point. But some do get a bit prissy. It definately has a negative effect on the value of rare models unless they have some other history attached.

The longer my Porsche ownership has gone on, the broader the church has become.

Even PCGB are becoming gracious enough to consider letting modified Porsche's into the fold.

not sure I mentioned my cupholders on my pcgb membership but as long as they are paying customers I was under the impression that the club were happy to accept !

What diameter cupholders ?

Rob ~ When I was a corporate PM , we formed the IME, (Institue of Meeting Engineers). Put on a stone with breakfast meetings and working lunches. Could go for a week without actually going near a desk.

Oh the good old days when someone else paid the x's

Now, where's Claire gone ?
