Triptronic gear change

The gear change in my 993 triptronic seems a little delayed... I'm guessing there is a big bill looming. Is there anything I can do to rectify it, or is it in the hands of the Porsche dealer for big works? I doubt I'm the first to have this... What should I expect?

Most problems with Tiptronic gearboxes can be traced to either incorrect oil level in the unit (so check it) and/or contaminated oil (check it)....

They're very reliable units so I wouldn't panic just yet...
