Hi all,

I drove a 993 today, and when you get to about 10 mph, there is a noise ?

I have been told its the fuel pump, pumping more fuel in ready...

any views ?

Dan

Might be wrong, but could be the oil pump rather than the fuel pump

why oil ?

It would help if you could describe it better

Where is it coming from on the car inside/ouside/engine/wheels???

What does it sound like
Bang bang , click click or slap slap, slurp slurp, scrape scrape, gurgle gurgle, screech screech or boing said zebedie??

Is it your car or someone elses? who says its the fuel pump?

Hi Stevo,

Its a 993 C4 1996.

Its like when you spray a "flash bottle" ! like fluid being sprayed into a vapour !

if you know what i mean ?

Never heard anything like it.

Wouldnt buy it without a full inspection by an independant advisor who knew his stuff anyway.

Are you sure about the speed? - Not the rear spoiler winding up at 30mph??

No, Its when you are slowing down ! about 10mph !

Could be the rear spoiler coming down, which is usually activated when speed drops just below 10mph (7 or 8 I seem to remember), if the bearing in the spoiler motor unit has dried out it can make a grinding noise, solution is to replace the bearing (search for threads about this has been discussed previouly) or the motor which will cost about £150.

No its not the motor on the spoiler, I hear that, it clicks at 5 mph and then goes down !

Sounds like that could be your man, from your description it sounds like some sort of hydraulic/gas strut issue and the speed would suggest it could be something to do with the spoiler. Mention it to your PPI inspector see what he reckons.
