Hello all-

Am thrilled to have purchased a beautiful 911 c4 (2001)- however my knowledge of porsche is limited in the mechanical area. Have 2 questions- the first probably qualifies as stupid. First- when starting the spoiler light comes on with all the other lights and then stays on- but goes out when i start moving. Why?

Second- at about 85 mph the car starts vibrating. Not severe enough to where passengers say they notice it- however driving it i can feel it in the steering wheel slightly and in the pedals as well- and its enough for me to notice that it is clearly not as smooth as at lower speeds- It's not severe enough to have me extremely worried but is enough for me to want to fix it. Is this a tire balance problem or possibly a motor issue???- Any advice would be most appreciated from you porsche conossieurs.

Oh and one more- have some rust on the undercarriage in the back- is that covered by any warranty? It is still under factory warranty.

Would be really thankful for advice

Mike

Miket,

I am no expert but spoiler light comes on to let you know its working, mine goes off at about 5kph.

I would think tyre pressures need adjusting, wheels require balancing or at worst tracking needs alignment. Are the tyres wearing unevenly?

Why a car should rust after 3 years is strange unless it has had repairs carried out. I think Porsche's corrosion warranty applies only if the car has been serviced by OPC at the correct mileage and or anually and has not sustained accident damaged unless repaired by an OPC.

I hope that helps, although Adrian Crawford or someone in the proffession would be able to advise you better.

The vibration sounds like a tyre/wheel issue that a rebalancing and possibly re-alignment should sort out

The rust is definitely a problem. Porsche's bodywork warantee will cover it so long as the bodywork has had the annual Porsche inspection whichI believe can be seperate from the servicing. If your warantee is not valid your car may well have been involved in an accident involving the panel that is rusting and you should get it checked out by an OPC or specialist. You might want to get it fixed at an OPC because they will then give you a lifetime warantee on the body work done (better than the factory warantee!)
