Boxster or Cayenne V6

cayenne vs boxster ? People only buy a boxster if they are a hairdresser or cannot afford a 911. People only buy a Cayenne if........actually I can't think of any good reason why somebody would want to buy a Cayenne.

Cayenne vs Boxster.........go for a 993 or 996.
People only buy a Cayenne if.... they've already got a 996, love everything Porsche and want a decent 2nd car to carry the kids and all their gear about and that goes great and doesn't handle like a bus (unlike the RR). So that'll be the Cayenne then, the Boxster doesn't quite fill all the requirments.

Ok so it's a bit ugly, then again I don't exactley wet myself at the sight of a 996 or a 993 come to that. 911's haven't be lauded for their good looks but that's not why we buy them, we buy them for what they are and what they do, the same should be good enough for the cayenne.

I think we need to start a Cayenne appreciation society, 993 owners stuck in the ark with rose coloured specs need not apply.

OK Sub, I agree with you (ish) BUT people can only join your Cayenne appreciation society if they meet your criteria of they've already got a 996, love everything Porsche and want a 2nd car to carry the kids and all their gear

Sub,

I wet myself every time I look at my 993, even with my rose coloured glasses on, come to think of it every 911 including the 996 GT3 is a dream to look at.

How about a Cayenne DEpreciation society? lets see how much these john merrick mobiles will be worth when their owners decide to change when the new BMW?Merc?RR kiddie lugger comes along with more gadgets than my iMac.

As for being stuck in the Arc with my 993, I prefer to call it:

Owning a car with character and not some "Im an Estate Agent/Solicitor/Investment Banker (delete what applies) and have bought the latest flash harry mobile, but I really don't know my RS from my elbow. (GT3 owners excluded)

However, if the Hot Chilli Pepper keeps Porsche in profit and more importantly into motorsport then I'll live with it.

Just my 2p's worth, FWIW

They should've sent the cayenne on the paris dakar but that idiot Wiedeking said ''Haha, the cayenne will race on slicks before on dirt!''

And the Carrera GT was originally a lemas project but turned into a roadcar.

I dont see porsche getting back into motorsport anytime within the next 3 or so years.

BTW, I'm 6ft 2 and I fit in the back of a 996 fine, if you put the seat forward.

Sorry mate but I think you;re in the minority here. And that's just your Cayenne opinion - to say that 993 and 996's are not purchased on looks and people don;t buy a 911 because of this reason is pretty much tosh I'm afraid. There are very few people out there who think any 911 is ugly, but if we stick the the standard, recent models (964 and onwards, maybe even earlier), people love them. If we talk about the Cayenne, almost everyone thinks they are ugly. Heck, look at the front cover of Autocar, featuring the RR concept car. Even Autocar say on the front cover "Another reason not to buy a Cayenne)".

The 993 was universally acclaimed as the best evolution o f the shape. The 996 was a slightly backward step in many people eye's but that's not to say it's not great to look at. The Cayenne is plain ugly, and, I reiterate, the majority of magazines have rated the RR better than the Cayenne in many areas (looks obviously being one). Sure, the Cayenne is a good road car, but then again, people like to buy cars that can do things they will probably never do themselves. People who buy Cayenne's I think, generally like the superior (high) driving poisiton, coupled with a Porsche badge, makes them think they are quick. And the Turbo is very quick - but then it drinks the fuel and will always look ugly.

PS Latest edition of GT (or 911 World) has a feature on a German Fast & Furious Cayenne. The writer says he defies anyone to not be impressed by the 'branded' off-road kick plates etc. I finally realised there are too many people out there who believe the word Porsche is enough to allow rose tinted spectacles to be applied all the time.

Porsche make sports cars. Cayenne is not a sports car...

I have an umbrella with a Porsche badge on it (a present!) but Porsche didn't do much of the engineering or manufacturing.

IMHO .......the Cayenne detracts from the Porsche brand and actually stiffles sports car development rather than enhances it (or funds it despite what Porsche may say). Just imagine what sporst car developments could have been achieved with the DMs (or Euros) that were spent on the Cayenne. Porsche management today are exploiting the brand for increased profits with little regard for the heritage of the company - hence not a snow flakes chance in hell of any motorsport investment. This may be the harsh realities of business in the 21st century but we the customers are the worse for that. Just my 2 pence worth.

I am buying a 4x4 this year for the practical reasons everyone mentioned but it won't be a Cayenne.

I agree the RR Stormer (or whatever they will call it) looks the biz and will no doubt make the Cayenne look even more dumpy in the future. I just think that just cos its "ugly" everyone gives it stick when in principle I think most people once they drove one would think it's an overall decent car. (sounds like a girl I once knew)

Anyway a small confesion to make, it,ll probably replace the family Multipla!! another truely ugly car but yet again totally underated- perhaps I need to see a Doc about having a passion for ugly cars.

Why buy a Cayenne....

Silly question really....To pull your RS to the track surely???

Just got back from my hols, and that means my GT3RS will be here soon :)

And the Cayenne will be here in April.

And yes I love everything Porsche, even my kettle.

The RR stormer looks really cool but its going to have a limited market appeal as a 2 door sports SUV. After all most people go for RR, X5s and landcruisers because of their size.

I hope they keep the gullwing doors on the stormer though, that'll secure my order

By the way, just wondering whether anyone has seen the new Landcruiser Amazon. A friend showed me him and although I'm german car lover at heart some of the technology is impressive: touch screen monitor, TV, reversing camera, bluetooth etc... I don't understand how Lexus can release touch screen 5 years ago as standard and we've still got the usual scroller on the Merc and Maser. I hope the S class and porsche range uses some of this kit (there is a B&O audio system in the new S - which should be good!!!)

errr, I apologise if i have strayed off the Porsche agenda!!!
