993 spoiler gear/cable - ouch!

AHA - I thought - its sounding like a coffee grinder as the spoiler raises and lowers - read a fix on a web site - tried drilling two small holes and adding 3 in one oil and wd 40 - noise increased to 10 coffee grinders.

Admitted defeat went to Porsche dealer for cable/gear assembly - fitted easily and now sounds like it should.

ouch, mine went on my old 964, jonas at JZ fixed it for me, cost about £140 if I remember.

So where else could I get a Porsche spoiler cable and gear mechanism (they are not fitted to your ford escort) - I fitted it myself so there was no labour charge...

They also happened to have one in stock.

Perhaps you know a good source for similar Porsche specific parts not fitted to any other car?

Please enlighten us all - we would be delighted to be as informed as you are!

Havn't got any connection with Design 911, but they were my first experience with Porsche parts, new and s/hand, rebuilt the front end of my 993 using their parts and help, they sent loads of faxes with parts diagrams etc, to help. Tried most other suppliers but they were not that good, could always get the bits in, but Design 911 actually had them in stock, and their prices were better than most, they've got a pretty good web site as well.

The noisy spoiler mechanism is usually caused by the bearing in the drive gearbox. Porsche fit a nasty unsealed bearing that eventually gets wet, dirty, drys out and then breaks up.

This bearing can be replaced with a new sealed version that will cure the noise and last much longer. The DIY repair can in an hour or so and for just a few £'s :)

And if you can get the bearing case out in a recognisable state, any decent bearing shop will supply one to pattern for nuppence.

As for Porsche spares, again, anybody "up North" should seek out Prestige Salvage, Leeds.

Also, at German & Swedish, 993 discs ( and they DO supply to many of our beloved Porsche Specialists) are about 40 quid ---- and we all know what the Specialists charge!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
