HI ALL, I HAVE A CHANCE TO BUY A 3.0 CARRERA, 1976, SILVER WITH BLUE LEATHER. IT IS A COUPE. IT HAS THE LATER TENSIONERS. HAVE ANY OF YOU GOY ONE. ARE THEY ANY GOOD, AND WHAT IN PARTICULAR SHOULD I LOOK OUT FOR. THE CAR WAS BROUGHT OVER TO HERE (IRELAND) BUT IS STILL ON UK PLATES. WHAT DOCUMENTS SHOULD I GET WITH THE CAR, AND HOW MANY OF THEM. ANY ADVICE WOULD BE GREATLE APPRECIATED.

STEPHEN.

Hi Stephen. Welcome to the board.

I think Carrera 3.0's are great. Similar power to the very much more common SC,, slightly lighter and that little bit different. Also, if you ever have to get inside the engine (God forbid) you can raise the compression (it has lower compression that the later SC's), change the cams and easily get another 40-45 bhp out of the motor without any reliability problems. The only thing really to look for is the hydraulic tensioners but you say you have them fitted already. Apart from that there the car has no particular achilles heel.

I am not sure I understand what you mean when you say what Documents should you get. There is nothing unusual - V5, MOT & handbook - I think that is about it.

For your own reference Carrera 3.0's tend to cost between £7k for examples wit rust, parking dents etc, to about £13k for perfect examples. Did you find a bargain?

Congratulations on your purchase.

Cheers, James

PS Could you not write in CAPS - it is generally taken to be "shouting" on on web forums and is also pretty hard to read. Cheers

Well, I have not bought it yet. Its just that this guy has one. he bought it in uk, but has not registered it over here yet. I was wondering what Documents there should be with it, in ordrer for me to process the paperwork over here. All the type and chassis numbers match to a 1976 3.0 carrera. Chassis no. is 9166******. And type no. is 930/02. Any more tips?

GEt a PPI from a reputable garage who does that sort of thing. I'd start with JZ or Autofarm. Any pics?

No pics yet. Im in Ireland, so i dont know of any Porsche specialists here who do inspections. I have a mechanic coming to give it a good looking over, but barring that, i have read all buyers guides and that. I am in no hurry, which is a good thing.
