Any advice on who does a good job restoring brake calipers? I'm not just talking about seals but stripping/recoating/new half bolts etc to new condition.

what car do you have?

If you have garage facilities and can get the car off the road for a few days , do it yourself . If not I would get an Independent to do the work (I can recommend a few) . If you want new bolts buy them new . If you want to paint the calipers (red?) then you have two options if it's concours you are after then bead blast and powder coat . If just 'street cool' then a clean up and laquer finish in your garage should do the trick . There are kits available for not a lot . Here's mine , took a few hours with friends but it was worth it . You might consider upgrading your old brake lines to stainless steel braided ones and even put on drilled disks too .

My concern is that the square section seal between the caliper halves is not available to buy or even listed by porsche. The bolts that hold the two halves together are also not available - the have a special torx/splined head - it looks like both but is neither!!! The original finish is a cadium/zinc plating and to apply this the calipers must be split. I contacted a specialist who rebuilds calipers - he had everything in shock - would acid dip the caliper bodies - fit new pistons and seals and return the calipers along with test certs all for £60 per caliper - as usual I lost the number - twat!

That sounded like a good price . Powder coating should set you back about £50.00 for the four . If you clean and laquer yourself I think the laquer kits are about £20.00 . When Irebuilt my calipers a 'star key' tool was the perfect fit for the bolts .
