Movement in the steering wheel

Now before anyone say's anything, not the usual left to right movement. I have owned my 993 for about a month now and I noticed at the weekend that there seems to be some "play" in the steering if I hold the top and bottom of the wheel and pull slightly. Is this normal on 993's or should I get it checked out.

Thanks, Mark

Get it checked. Now. That's not right.

Any ideas what it could be? It is only a very slight movement but I have noticed it when driving.

Alignment, 993s generally need it doing once a year.

steering wheel nut may be loose, or bearing in the rack may be shot.

Just guessing though

Get it properly fixed asap.....the stuff of 'mares that (steering wheel coming off in your hand at speed, i mean)

I have exactly the same on this 993 and my previous 993, and posted a note about it some time ago. Mine was excatly the same - and although you could slightly feel it at rest, I noticed it when driving hard around corners as a slight 'flex' through the steering wheel. It's almost as if the steering wheel is not tightened enough onto the rack.

If this is what you mean, then alignment etc doesn't do anything (as I had that done on both cars) but it's actually not the steering - more the steering wheel. Baylon, would you agree?

I asked Camtune to look at it but they found nothing wrong. One other in their showroom also did it - another didn't. The fact that more cars than not I have tried do it leads me to believe I am too ***** about little bits and pieces not being perfect and thus must get a life and stop worrying. But I dooo.....

Hi Andy, this is exactly what I mean, it feels like the steering wheel needs tightening slightly. Have you resorted to the fact that some do and some dont and that it one of those things? I thought it may be as the car was inspected when I bought it and nothing sinister was found.

I think I will give the specialist a call for extra peice of mind

Thanks, Mark

Pretty much yes, it's one of those things but whatever the specialist says, could you let me know? It's not a pain or anything, but sometimes I just wish it didn;t do it, particularly on a hard driving day as it doesn't inspire confidence in the quality of the car. Bloody glad someone else has the same issue though....

Andy

Andy, spoke to the specialist (Shirleys of Meriden) and the mechanic there said the same as you, "some do it and some dont". He said it is nothing to worry about as the movement is only slight, but if it gets worse then to get it checked out.

Have any other 993 owners on the forum noticed this on their cars?

I haven't noticed it but will check it out on a drive later today.
