Has anyone ever taken this off.

Mine has developed a leak and after taking off all the attached hose, temperature guage wire, screw and uncliped/unslid the tank from its groove, I still cannot squeeze it out of the engine bay? Any easier way of getting this out without a trip to the OPC

Are you still under OPC warranty?

I would go to a specialist for that rather than an OPC if you can't sort it yourself. Could always try ringing one of them for advise.

Regards

I have had the same problem and Porsche warranty say not coverred as `wear & tear item'.

They say as the reservoir gets hot and cold you should expect to change it during life of car - mine is less than 5 years old with 39000 miles on!

Vauxhall & Mercedes warranties would cover such a thing but Porsche seem intent on ripping me off.

last month I had to spend £300 + on 2 new key remote controls as they had failed - same wear & tear excuse from Porsche. Are they now using cheaper components on their cars?

Unequivocal yes. One of the reason they are now the world's most profitable car company...

If you've already taken so much off, call a Porsche indie and I'm sure they will give you some tips.

Unfortunately it is in a main dealer having been dropped there by recovery. I assumed would be covered on £700 + extended warranty but they say no and want £260 to supply & fit! - I have not authorised repair yet as arguing with Porsche GB!

It is enough to make you sell up and buy a different marque!

No no, it's easier than that, sell it and buy a 993! You certainly won't have a problem with leaky coolant reservoirs

Seriously though, if you feel that strongly, write to Porsche GB. Given the age and mileage they may show good will (especially given your shell out for the keys).

Does your car have a full OPC history?

Has full OPC history - will contact GB and keep informed

Good luck with it. Don't let it cloud your experience, the 911 is a true great, but like every car they have the odd weakness.

Seems like the OPC's are the same the world over, my expansion tank has just gone as well - in conjunction with the water pump! Took it to an independent. I was told that it is quite a common problem with 996's???? so it should get covered (you would think) under warranty - keep pushing them.

It's funny given that I took the car to an OPC for a service and they didn't notice the dried coolant residue from the leaky tank - idiots.

Apparently Porsche (in Australia anyway) have acknowledged this particular weakness. Mine cost me $290 Aussie Pesos so if you spend a GBP like you spend a dollar the cost sounds about right - come over to Oz and bring your cash with you, favourable exchange rates. At 40p per dollar your cost will be GBP116 - just don't annoy the sting rays!
