Idling at circa 300 RPM

On the weekend my 911 Turbo 2 3.3 has started idling when warm at about 300 RPM. Any ideas as to what may be the cause. The car has only done 35,000 miles from new and had a full 12,000 mile service 2500 miles ago.

Is it idling flat or surging.

There was another thread about surging idling, which ended up being dirty fuel. I would start by changing the fuel filter - perhaps it is being starved. Have you run it very low recently?

The car is idling flat. Fuel has not been run right down. The car is garaged but it is not a heated garage. Could it be damp at all?

Would have thought that damp would cause starting problems, not give a problem when warm.

Have a quick look in the distributor cap to see if there's any damp there as a precaustion. However, I doubt that it's the cause of low idling.

Better bet would be the HT leads - try running the engine in complete darkness and see if there's any arcing. This could cause the symptons you describe, but would also likely (but not certainly) show up in loss of power when driving.

What does it run like when accelerating/under load?

Car runs perfectly otherwise and does not miss a beat or experience a loss of power. Thanks for the tiop on the HT leads and distributor. I will try and have a look tonight.

I'm back and I'm pleased. The grin has been restored as having used the car last weekend after about 15 minutes the idling has gone back to normal. Spoke to the Porsche Dealer in Cardiff who put it down to getting a bit damp (left outside a hotel overnight in Bath with a bad frost).

Did also check HT (As best as I could) leads and all seem fine.

My SC does this each winter as it lives out, start up at about 2000 rpm falling back when warm about a mile, to 1000, weve tried to get it fixed, but travelling to nearest specialist, simply warms it up anyway and fault does'nt show typical, they did say that a small relay in the engine compartment, is probably sticking, oh the joys of ownership eh..

Mine is mis-firing after a lengthy park up, and i am looking for arcinc at night too

Apologies for typing/spelling BTW
