Hi,

I've been reading lots of helpful posts here for a while as I have been considering a 997 (or maybe 991) but just registered to ask a question if I can?

I've just seen a 997.2 silver manual car newly advertised on a popular auction site this morning. I'm not sure if can post a link or not so won't but am sure others can find / see it, but if posting a link is allowed then I can do.

It's priced favourably at £27.5k or offer. It had a big bill for a new clutch and flywheel at around £5k in late 2019, but not sure if owner has done last service themselves, but no receipts.

I saw the recent thread on £25k gen2 cars and wonder if I could get peoples view on this one ?

Thanks in advance

Posting a link to a car that you're interested in is allowed but be aware that there are always other people looking for nice cars so you may be inviting competition to your bidding.

Thanks for the welcome !

Here's the link to the car. I'm not knowledgeable enough to know if this is a sound car for me or not. And its the wrong end of the country so maybe its an option for someone else ...

Work done by Precision Porsche bodes well- they are very well regarded.

Worth further investigation and maybe a trip if you're keen... imagine the drive home

Thanks for the feedback. I might give precision Porsche a call about the car to get a better feel for the work they did.

That is the car that deMort did a walnut blast on to clean up the coked up valves. So is definately worth looking at :thumb:

There is a thread about it here :

Thank you for that thread link.

One of the thoughts the mechanic who did the work shares in the thread is that the 2 year oil change frequency might be a contributing factor.

On this car the seller has said they did the last two oil changes themselves in 2017 and 2019, which was already causing me some concern, and now I wonder if there is any correlation.

The mechanic that did the work is also advising you that, if he were you, he'd have a look at the car. He hasn't warned you off it.

Good point. I hadn't linked the earlier comment from deMort to the linked write up, so thanks that does help.

Would they be willing to have a Porsche garage or specialist check it over pre sale?

Can i just say that i really can't comment on the car involved ..

The post i did on DFI inlet valves coking up was just that .. a post to show you all what happens , what it looks like and what can be done ... they all have it to some degree or another .. the car in my post was walnut cleaned making it a very rare 997 DFI as very few will have had this done so it will certainly be one of the better ones as regards to this issue .

The 2 year oil change .. that's nothing to do with the car in the post and is out of context as such ..

It's about ALL dfi engines might be better off with a 1 year oil change to slow down the rate of build up on the valves .

Thanks deMort, and yes, I appreciate you can't really comment on the particular car, but the linked feedback on the generic process involved etc was really helpful especially knowing it was completed on this car.

Does the bonnet look a different shade? Doesn't look right
Lack of recent proper Porsche or specialist servicing could also worry
