The Silver Bullet-Resto Project

Gaz I think if you pull the vacumn pipe off and it smells of petrol it's knackered, if petrol drips or sprays out it really knackered!!

Its been a few weeks since my last update and thankfully its good news so I was having an issue getting the emissions/running rich issue resolved and had worked through the following

ECU had been sent away and tested out ok
New coil
New leads fitted
New plugs fitted
Vacuum pipes all checked
head temp sensor new and checked
Fuel pressure checked and new FPR fitted

so all this done and no improvement, when we first tried to set the mixture we suspected the Air flow meter so this was dispatched to Frazerpart tested and found to be out of spec so £220 later it was returned refurbished with a couple of seals across the lid which if removed voided the years warranty.

so having checked all of the above we kept coming back to the AFM the car has been in at a Bosch specialist who has been excellent,so decision was made to get the seals of and check the settings on the AFM which can be adjusted internally and low and behold within an hour he had the emissions down to below 1 and able to adjust either way if it needs a tickle later on.
His view is the AFM is set at new factory settings however the engine is 30 years old and was always going to need a tweek however the fact it is sealed steers you away from opening it up so a bit of a struggle but a result.

So all that was left was the MOT ,it failed

Bloody high beam bulb wasn`t working quick fixy and were good to go

:thumb: :Dance-Tap:

So getting picked up tomorrow and I will get some finished pictures up over the weekend if the sun shines

So Mot passed :thumb: only the geo to be done and thats it finito :drive: time to go and enjoy it over the summer some pics of the finished article and a reminder where it started just about 3 years ago.

I love these little transaxle cars. Can't believe it's 31 years since I sold mine.

Hi Gaz,

Well done mate, pleased you got your electrical problems sorted and your young 'un can get out and have some fun in it. Looks really great too! I bet he's made up

Electrics na be nightmares! I'm having problem with mine at the mo, something pulling juice off the battery and leaving it dead in a few hours. I've checked the battery and its not showing any dead cells and reading good so I'm not sure why there should be a problem occur suddenly from somewhere else. :? I think a trip to a proper auto-electrician is on the cards.

Hope to see you this summer somewhere?

Cheers,
Paul

Thanks Chief , as you well know its a lot of work even when you start with a half decent car enjoyed doing most of it bloody torque tube bearings were a challenge  but all a distant memory now and had a blast this weekend going not very fast complete opposite of the millennium falcon sitting next to it

How is blue book ? seen the pics in primer any further forward ?

Paul, number one son has been away on Arran with his mates golfing this weekend and graduates on Thursday so he will get a shot on Friday still trying to sort out the Insurance for him.

It would be good to catch up at one of the events I will need to keep an eye out on the calendar and see what`s on,A good electrician will have you sorted in no time hopefully :thumb: The bosch specialist that had my car for over a week only charged me £170 including my mot and spent hours testing everything absolute bargain.

cheers

Gaz

So had a bit of a disaster at the weekend coming back from the Airport in the 924 horrendous weather and flash floods, I now have an inspection port in the side of the block to check the pistons :

So new engine required and as you can see from my car list this is the second time we have went through this the present Mrs D suffered the same fate in our first 944  wont be able to rib here o er that anymore

So now on the hunt for a replacement engine might take the opportunity to stick a 3.0S2 in if I can find one at a decent price however will consider 2.5/2.7 16v drop me anote if anyone knows of a decent one. (ebay has a few but either pricy from the breakers or high milers)

So thats my winter in the cave programmed in :thumb:
