Fantastic plate if you're lucky enough to own a 918.

I bought this from the DVLA auction a couple of years ago in the hope of buying a 718 but the purchase fell through.

Including all fees plate owes me nearly £4k, I was previously looking for around £3k but I’ve been offered something interesting so for a quick sale will accept £1,500 ovno only until the end of Feb ‘20, after then I’ll stick it back in the draw.

Plate is currently on retention.

I'd be putting that in an email to all the OPC network andvtru and striking a deal via them.

Thanks, I’d not tried the OPC’s, but did email all the specialists who had a 918 for sale. One responded with an offer of £500! 🤬I refrained from responding.

I don't normally comment on numberplate threads but I just can't see how this owes you £4K?

The plate sold in Feb for £2700 here:-

https://dvlaregistrations.dvla.gov.uk/search/previous-auction-plates.html?searched=true&plate=Hot+918s

Then you add 8% auction fees and vat at 20% and you end up about £3499

I like car specific plates BUT the problem with this one is the target market and the fact it is a standard format ie people with a 918 tend to have much more expensive plates at their disposal to put on the car than a standard format plate IMHO Dont know

Nope definitely just shy of £4k, VAT on hammer price, then fees, then VAT on fees, you've also missed off the assignment fee albeit at £80.

I assure people I'm not trying to make anything on this...and will accept a loss on this.

Preston OPC have one in at the mo. Might be worth giving them a ring and see if they want it:

Just under £3.6k according to DVLA https://www.dvlaauction.co.uk/index.php/live-auction/what-will-it-cost/

It’s a shame it’s about three or four years too late. Would’ve quickly gone in the days the flipped cars were being bought.

How sad must you be to use your time to sound this out and make something of it....
It's his story and his sale, if he choose to make 10 million profit thats his business..... do you also go to Currys / Argos etc and question their purchase cost of Fridges and TV's, or Porsche UK about their retail pricing since they mark up near to 26% of manufacturing cost?

You must be an absolute ---- to deal with when looking to buy a used car.
If you're not interested - leave it be and move on!

Dont know

I’m guessing by the lack of Plate related banter then this has potential,

There’s always some one on Plate related sales that gets a bee in their bonnet and turns in to Miss Marple turning every leaf to unearth the original sale. Cost, tax, fees etc, and that’s before the debate on spacing begins !

I’d suggest putting it on one of these forums that lists it for sale ? The buyer pays all cost and fees to the site and you just supply the paper work, I did it last year with a very expensive plate and it registered one day on their site, I had a confirmation email to say it was listed then by the time I’d looked at my email and was about to close the phone another email bounced in stating it had sold.

I can’t guarantee the same result but the only people who will get in touch will be genuine buyers,

Good luck with the sale though

The plate is legit, no question. Jonttt point about people with £1m car are more likely to have an FP22 or FP1 at their disposal to assign it to.
Fair punt by buying it in the first place, but as with any investment, there are risks. Hopefully the right guy will come along and limit your loss

Cheers, it’s been up for sale with a few of the plate dealers, reasonably priced no bites. I also had a 2 digit 2 letter plate I was trying to sell, having bought it from the plate dealer 20 years ago, I was getting offers less than I paid for it back then, so decided to just keep it.

Cheers, it was a punt, but also thought it might look ok on a 718S but that purchase fell through.
