Rusty manifolds

Nice to see some of the features of the 993 and previous incarnations carried through to the 997 (and probably later).
There are many threads about removing the manifold studs. I did it myself on my 993, and it is one of the few jobs I would rather leave to a trusted indie, having first worked out a treatment plan and discussing exactly what they will do if and when the studs break. More when than if in my opinion.
Maybe 997's are easier than those that have gone before in this respect.

Your manifolds will probably be fine after a good wire brushing, the manifold bolts are a known issue on 996/997 unfortunautely, don`t touch them until you have to as they will more than likely have to be drilled out to replace them :hand:
A job best left to an indy who knows the procedure and will do it far less painfully than you will be able to :thumb:

Can i just add my voice to the above .. DON'T touch them until there is a problem such as an exhaust leak .. they can and do go on for years and years looking like this !

If you have a warrantee, these are covered (mine were), so they should be good for 100k miles.
They are quite pricey to replace so if you have the option and are convinced they are about to fail, might be worth buying a warrantee and getting Porsche to do? This would be reliant upon you passing the 111 check (presumably they will look at these) and then at some stage your OPC agreeing they need changing. Blowing is an MoT failure, which is when I got mine done.
Of course if you take the punt and they don't fail, you've lost a grand in warrantee.

They look just like mine did before I swapped them for some new tubular stainless items. As has been mentioned 6 of the 12 manifold studs snapped trying to remove them but thankfully the car was with my trusted Indie as I had expected this to be the case. They called out a local specialist to drill the remainder out then fitted the new manifolds with the TDF / Poppopbangbang titanium studs & K-nuts. A bit overkill perhaps but I just couldn't bear looking up under my car and seeing that rusted mess on show...
