Upgraded Suspension - Dampers, Springs - Coilovers?

Hi All,

After doing little searching this AM I am none the wiser.

I've a Gen1 Carrera running 19" wheels. The ride is OK but a little crashy - could be due to worn components. The ride height is a little high so would like to drop it a little as well.

Is there a 'proven' upgrade for non PSAM cars?

Thanks in advance.

Can't provide you an answer but I'm on a similar look out.

Currently looking a Bilstein b16 comfort

Seem to get good feedback and minimum drop is about 10mm

Any one in the board running these ?

H&R Springs

Hi Guys

I lowered my car with a set of H&R springs, about a 25mm drop. Ride and handling were excellent. I traded the car with an OPC so it went back to standard and I am selling the springs. They are in excellent condition, were on the car for approx 4,000 miles. H&R code is 29188. Let me know if interested, I can send a photo.

Well if I had a non PASM car, I'd be running à–hlins R&T coilovers and H&R anti roll bars. I'm not sure there's any particular weakness in the suspension (apart from cracked springs) but presumably there are parts that could be usefully refreshed.

Probably worth reading the 996 upgrade suspension test article in December's 911& Porsche World, and also checking out the thread in the 996 section... a whole range of upgrades were tested comprehensively. While there are 996/997 differences, some of the views may provide food for thought.

One of the points of note is that the standard springs that come with Ohlins R&T coilovers are too hard for road use, and there are benefits to be had from running a less firm spring rate.

Many thanks I saw that and bought a copy on Sunday. Ohlins seem to be the favoured option.

Hi,

I also have a 997.1 C2 fitted with 19" Carerra Classics. Primarily due to the high ride height, like you I wanted to lower the car. I was torn between going ohlins or lowering springs and at about this time there was a Group Buy for Techart springs - so Techart it was!

The springs were great and certainly the car looked a lot better and more in keeping with how a Porsche 911 should be. In terms of ride height the Techart springs were generally fine but I found the front was actually probably a bit on the low side and I had to be quite careful over speed humps.

Then in May of this year my car failed its' MOT due to a leaking front shock absorber. So it was decision time and Man Maths came in to play and I decided to go the ohlins route. I have to say they are fantastic and of course you have full adjustability of the ride height. The ride is firm but I have got them set fairly hard.... A couple of photos below:
