I’ve been wanting to add to the garage, and have been looking at various options including air cooled and another stab at a GT3. But decided to go French instead of German today and put down a deposit on an Alpine A110S. I was expecting a 9 month wait but the bloke at Alpine Manchester reckons lock down by the end of January with a Spring delivery. Which would be ideal.

I like these a lot. Very unique choice.
What happened to the GT3? I must have missed a post. _________________ 997.2 Carrera PDK

The GT3 suffered a ‘catastrophic’ failure. It’s a long read, but the pictures tell most of the story.

Hi Graham - Alpine looks like a great car. Saw some great reviews on it over the weekend - enough for me to look at Alpine website and spec options. What options have you gone for? Looking forward to seeing it when you get it. _________________ EX GT3RS / GT4 / 997.2 4S / Boxster 981 / Boxster 986 / Boxster 718 / 991 Turbo / 991 C2 / Cayman Type R / 997.2 C2 / Cayman

It’s a bit of a culture shock after using the Porsche configurator, as there are so few options. Almost everything comes as standard.
They’re having a launch event for the ‘S’ next Sunday at Alpine in Manchester, so going to see what the different colours look like in the flesh before I lock it in. Also not sure on the carbon roof, that might be overkill. _________________ 2018 991.2 GT3 Touring - Jet Black Metallic

One of the french alpine clubs were at Dijon last year. Looked great fun cars. One in a darker blue than the usual light blue..think it’s abyss blue? Looks great in the changing light through the day.

Visited Winchester Alpine on Friday looking for inspiration. This is a stunning machine and no doubt a real drivers car.

I love the lighter blue colour on most cars but I think the dark blue version looks much better. _________________ 1999 C2 Coupe - http://911uk.com/viewtopic.php?t=124107

Thanks for the pics. The Abyss Blue does look good, similar to Iris Blue looking at the pictures. The only problem is it doesn’t appear to be an option for the S. The launch colour for the S is the Matt thunder grey, which is a £4.5k option. How it can be deemed a launch colour when they want to charge that for it, is beyond me. That’s the only outrageous option though, everything else either comes as standard or is reasonably priced. _________________ 2018 991.2 GT3 Touring - Jet Black Metallic

Hadn’t clocked the S version, more power, cup chassis and some other extras.
Seems that’s the one to go for budget permitting. _________________ 1995 993 C2. Iris Blue.

Not yet. Going to a launch event in Manchester next Sunday, hoping to have a go in one then.
I looked at the standard model last year, and was tempted. But when the S came along, it made more sense. All the reviews I've read/watched, have been overwhelmingly positive, so I'm hoping for great things. _________________ 2018 991.2 GT3 Touring - Jet Black Metallic

I love a zingy lightweight 4 cyl, but its odd how everyone lambasts the 718 for being a 4 cyl, yet seem to not mind it in the Alpine.
Maybe Porsche trend-setting again? _________________ "911- the guilt-free supercar"

I think the move away from 6 was always going to be an issue for the 718. Especially the noise, when compared with the 981.
The power to weight ratio might make people more forgiving of the Alpine. The Cayman S is 235hp per tonne, and the A110S is 262hp per tonne. And once you’ve specc’d a Cayman S to match what comes mostly as standard on the Alpine, it’s about £3-4K more expensive by my reckoning. _________________ 2018 991.2 GT3 Touring - Jet Black Metallic

Interesting stats. I get the whole 6 cylinder bit with my 993 and daily BMW however the 718 in both forms is a superb machine. I do however find the niche element of the Alpine quite appealing. _________________ 1995 993 C2. Iris Blue.
