New 997.1 GT3 owner saying hi.

DSC...I do think it has made the car smoother but it isn't night and day difference.
Had a very tough drive Sunday which was from Ealing to Loughton..it was tough as I still have the cage in the back which meant the dog and wife had to share the front seat..and the dog likes to look out of the window which meant his claws kept digging in my wifes legs. He did eventually get his butt into the footwell with head on the wife's lap but it wasn't ideal.
I drove as careful as possible, no jerks, smooth as um a smooth thing changing gear and anticipating those ahead and slowing gradually.
The car didn't feel that stiff over the crap roads I had to take and I do put this down to the DSC. It's marginal but I am happy with a marginal improvement.
Cage get's removed next week...then I will be hunting for a specialist to build me a back shelve with cubbie hols like I have in the 3.2..then I need to get them to enable me to attach the dog so that he is kept safe and also keeps us safe. If you have any recommendations let me know.

I assume you know the DSC is programmable. The whole idea is you tailor it to do what you'd like it to.

It's a 'hi-fi" version of the PASM controller, with its own EQ settings :)

Yes, but knowing my luck I'd make it worse!
I'll go do some research on the DSC site and see if I can learn how to change maps.....hopefully someone has one specific to our pock marked roads!

One of the mods I fancy doing is yellow seatbelts...I saw a post on Rennlist with a firm that can make them in any colour. I like the idea of yellow to match my callipers.

But 1st is cage out then next is finding a firm to bespoke a shelve and storage in the back. I'll make a new post in this forum and perhaps the general one to see if anyone has good recommendations.

Fulla - congrats! Love the car.

How are you finding the gearing for road driving compared to the aircooled cars? 84mph max in 2nd gear isn't it. 993 it's something like 68mph, largely as the rev limit is only 6700.

That's what I've always been curious about though...would a switch to 997 GT3 mean barely any gear-lever action for (legal-ish) road driving. Fear I'd miss it. Or are you finding yourself in 3rd & 4th gear lots because the high revs are mental so you end up short-shifting?

Lots of US 997 GT3 owners seem to have fitted the 4.00 R&P from the 997.2 GT3 RS, which lowers the gearing to max speed 71mph in 2nd gear, albeit reducing top speed.

Cheers, I love it as well...I've even named it Vader...the 993 didn't have a name, well I did liken it to a comfy pair of loafers.

To be honest the gearing hasn't struck me yet. My drive to work sees me getting to a heady 40mph which means I am mostly in 4th gear occasionally 5th.
I am intoxicated by the higher rev limit which is over 8k and the sound and then linear build of speed and that whenever I go over 4k I start grinning like a madman...and when i do stretch it to the limit I am like The Joker, (if you have seen the film you will be aware of his laughing, if you haven't seen it go as its very good and not what I expected)
If anything I feel I am using the gears more in the GT3.
I don't go over 4k until it is all warmed up and haven't short-shifted, which I used to do in the 993 on the work route. I do think the short shifting in the 993 was down to 10 years of driving it whereas the GT3 is still very new.
I do focus on the gears more but that is because they are like a rifle bolt and until warm are notchey.
Now you have mentioned this I'll think about this more when I next drive it.
I have to say though I am happy to make compromises in my cars. Lot's of people thought having a 993 as a daily was mad and asked how did I put up with the ride quality...and now I get people saying the same with the GT3 and how I'll do my back in. I don't get it, I don't like magic carpets, I like cars where I can feel what is going on below me. And if it jumps and bums around I see that as a challenge to drive better to smooth the road out...or if it is loud and mechanical I love this as well.
The wife had a Range Rover L322 some years back and it was soooo boring to drive, made me want to go to sleep.
Maybe that is why I preferred driving the 3.2 CS to the 993...
