Replacing rubber seal around windscreen?

Some of the rubber around the windscreen seems to have perished and come ripped away whilst I've been away, can hear a slight whistle/wind noise when driving which is a little annoying! Also noticed condensation in the car in the mornings so there's obviously a gap or leak somewhere.

Question I have is, is it a simple job to replace or repair? I'm guessing it's a replacement job as it's one whole piece that surrounds the windscreen?

Hi,

I had my windshield replaced recently on my 997.2, and remember that the rubber seal came attached to the windscreen. If you have a leak, I think it may be easier to get a new windscreen through your Insurance company which will have a new seal.
 
Not sure if your Insurance would cover a failed seal since when I did a claim recently they look to try and repair wherever possible, the crack needs to be larger than a £2 coin and ideally in the drivers line of sight for them to replace it (my crack qualified for a replacement and cost be £90 on Insurance). Your options after that are a good old bit of Insurance fraud (up to you in your ethics around that), or could contact a windscreen replacement company for advise on how this might be repaired, might be able to take it out and replace the seal and refit for an hourly rate and parts (but I'm only guessing on that).
 
Hmm thanks guys, I don't really want to claim on Insurance and have a potential claim on my Insurance for the next few years.
Might contact local specialists (JZM and Jaz) to see what they suggest.
 
It's only windscreen, shouldn't effect your no claims.
 
I had a number of stone chips on my windshield, I spoke to my Insurance company who told me to speak to Autoglass. Due to the number of stone chips, autoglass replaced the windshield with a genuine one for 95. Did not impact my no claims. Not sure what they would say about a leak, worth speaking to your Insurance company.
 
I can echo the above, I had a small chip in the wiper area of my screen, Autoglass came out and said it had been previously repaired and couldn't be improved so they replaced the whole screen, it cost me the £75 excess and my Insurance actually fell the following year. It's gone down further this year too!
 
Just an update on this, spoken to a few windscreen companies - one local one who don't work with Insurance companies due to the hassle but suggested that the whole windscreen should be replaced due to the bonding and would be £640 all in.
Haven't called Insurance or Autoglass yet, but spoke to the supplying dealer who suggested putting some tape on in the meantime - any issues with doing this?? Could there be any damage to the paint?

Possibly if the tape was string enough not to blow off at 70pmh when wet :)

I suppose you could try some black silicone sealant - Halfords sell it small tubes.

Your £640 quote sounds cheap for genuine Porsche glass.

Not convinced an Insurance company would spring for a replacement on a wear and tear basis like this. Possibly worth asking them.
 
Thanks murph, I think I'm going to go down the silicone route for now and see how that does.
 
Update time!

So I don't think it's the windscreen seal letting the moisture in as I put some sealant on which has stopped the noise at higher speeds. However I've noticed that there's a lot of moisture inbetween the layers of the cabriolet hood on the passenger side, so guessing that there's a leak on that side somewhere!
 
Rule of thumb .. a windscreen will only leak if it has been replaced and poorly fitted .. i've only seen one case of a screen leaking and the sealant they used left a gap after they replaced it .

Cab .. well front bulkhead drains each side of the battery need checking ..

The rear drains need checking ..

Hand down the back of the carpets to see if damp .. behind the front seats and where the carpet reaches the back seats .. you can pull it up a bit there to check .

And a new one ..

Pretty rare but there should be an L shaped seal that sits between part of the roof on top of the window ( front ) .. it can fall out ..

Basically open the roof half way .. see where the roof separates from the front section to a middle section above the window ( front ) .. then look each side to see if it looks the same at this join ..

I don't have an image im afraid so if you could photo this area i can say if you have a problem or not .

I recently had a new screen in my 02 C2 and it leaked real bad. It was through autoglass, they got it replaced and now its fine.
