Be VERY wary dealing with Specialist Cars of Malton

Rob, after getting the purchase price back,

did you get your legal fees ? other recover costs ? interest lost as result of being paid in installments ?

Yes, I got everything back apart from the interest and of course my time (which was considerable).

It's. It all bad, and now at least your armed with a lot more knowledge and hopefully a much better built and cared for classic Porsche ?

I suspect there's loads out there, if you think about most of these cars get bought disappear into storage, and bought out a few times a year. As I have learnt not all specialist are equal. So even if its been serviced no saying that problems are going to be picked up.

Also some of the TECHS weren't even born when some the cars were built. then you have the air-cooled lot and the water cooled, so you get guys that are masters at the diagnostic computer, but wouldn't know the first thing about a sole carb.

You know, I found myself idly wondering the other day of John Hawkins is or was an honorary member of Porsche Club GB.

I'd be very proud to own a genuine 1972 2.4 911S with a poorly aligned engine deck IF it was a genuine 911S and not a misrepresented copy/homage/replica/fake.

the issue I would raise, which I'm sure his lawyers are all over

for any other classic 911, I see a 1973 2.7 RS and a 1972 Purple 2.4 T

Where they state some part in the restoration or work, what am I buying ?

as it's exactly what 4Star Classics did when they flogged a 993 Carrera as a 993 RS and by all accounts got away with it

Shocking, I always thought they had a good rep.

However, I'm blown away by the detail in the inspection report. I know where I'll be going if I happen to buy a mint classic!

...and in Octane.

Most magazines and publications will sell advertising for a year in advance, so maybe this is under review with some!

Wow, what a depressing read. Glad the OP got it sorted, just such a shame it took what it did to get his money back. Lesson for people about getting a PPI. One day i want to own a Porsche of this era so I'll definitely be getting one!

Heard a similar story about a 356 Speedster from a Porsche specialist with a really good reputation. Last I heard on that one lawyer's were involved and said dealer wasn't at that stage admitting the car was a wrong 'un.
