I''ve decided to expand on the GT3C theme. Just for fun.

Just a question and not an observation, but are the rear hind quarters on a GT3 like the Turbo and 4S rather than the 2S?

No. The 997GT3 is narrow bodied - 1808mm (like C2/C2S) not 1852mm (like C4/C4S/Turbo).

GT3 is narrow body like the 2 and 2S and GT3RS is wide body like the 4 , 4S and turbo :thumb: :thumb:

Car looks great , my gen1 was very similar but I didn't want to badge it as a gt car as it wasn't so here's what I did . I decided that I was going to use a theme on the Porsche edition 918 turbo that they produced as a limited run for those buying 918 while they waited. So I called it Edition 911 sport using the same font .The dials are about an hours work to remove and an hour to replace , I had custom ones made . these can be any colour background or script etc. I badges the lower doors the same, I asked RPM to custom make me the oval door sill inserts in carbon which they did along with the carbon insert for the airbox . neither were silly expensive. the dials were about £100 custom made . oh yes to clearly your original post. the aero rear wing doesn't have the gurney strip as you noted and also is fixed whereas the gt3 wing is adjustable to 3 positions , clearly underneath the fans and air intake are different between the two.. Its your car and you do what makes you happy but thought you might be interested in what I did when in the same position as you.

Incredible cars. And the concepts are right up my street. Thank you SO much for your comment. Brilliant.

Glad it helped with food for thought , it doesn't have to be badged GT for it to look or be special. One of the guys in our local 911uk group has dropped a 6.2ltr Corvette engine in his Cayman and has also adopted the "Edition" theme. :thumb: :thumb:

The other thing to think about and is very in vogue at the moment add some race livery wrap you then really dont need GT badges to bring it alive . another of our local group has added a dirty martini wrap over his black paintwork :thumb: :thumb: and it will protect the paintwork as well :thumb:

Had an amazing day out in the car today.

At exactly 1:45am (last night) we found out that the Porsche Club were having a 997 mansion house brunch meet. So, with an email sent at 1:46 we decided, let's just go and see if we can gate crash the event. We are club members so off we set this morning. We were about half an hour behind schedule so we arrived at about 11:30 and were guided into a lovely parking position. We explained our last minute decision & asked if we could pay on the door. No problem they kindly said! And what a wonderful brunch it was. Met some great people too.

When we realised we were less than half a mile from Caffine & Machine, well, it would have been rude not to.

The funniest thing was. Being a (cough) GT3, they asked me to park in the front car park whilst the other 997's were ushered to the overflow car park. I felt so guilty.

Met some more lovely people here too.

What a great day!!!!

Keep the 'tongue in cheek' theme going by using carbon fibre effect vinyl for the stripes.

The Stripes are Matt Black, you can get them from Ebay, but had them cut and fitted for me.

The Gurney Strip and the Extended rear vents are Carbon Fibre, not prepared to paint them in Matt Black allthough i had the shine taken off leaving them with a Matt look which blends in perfectly!! But having vinyl wrap stripes in carbon fibre well maybe for some, not for me! No Tongue and Cheek here, each to their own i guess.

Well - since everyone else has thrown their thoughts on the pyre I'll join in... As ever the caveat is that I am saying what I'd do and haven't an issue if you choose to ignore me as the car should be what you want it to be.

The things that irk me to the point that I would want rid of them are the GT3 badges on the boot and kick plates and the yellow callipers. Nothing screams "I can't afford the car that I want" on a 911 like yellow callipers on small disks with 4 pots to me. It is like an expensive version of those fake disk covers that the Max Power brigade used to put on the rear drums of their hatchbacks. The GT3 badges on the wheels - well they are GT3 wheels so it isn't a crime (though if you are de-GT3ing it then crested ones would be cool). The instrument cluster - if it is real then just leave it (criminally expensive to reverse, so consider yourself "forgiven") but if just a dial face I'd get rid of that too. I'd go with the normal OE "911" badge or just leave it bare on the back.

Happy motoring whichever way you go with it. :thumb:

Shame about the brake calipers. The yellow suits the seatbelts and stitching etc. So I guess, the only option is black calipers as the car is not an S model.

Happy motoring indeed. The car is amazing. It makes me feel like a child again. And at the price I paid, I just know I've done the right thing by not buying a GT3 and simply storing it in the garage, and wishing I had bought a car I wasn't too scared to use.

Fake, yes. Incredible, yes. Makes me happy, yes. GT3, no where close. Do I care, no.
