My 997 Carrera S progress..

Great thread, I'm a newbie picking up my gen 1 c2s on Monday, very useful thread and a great read so thank you!

Cheers Simon! I hope it helps along your 997 journey!

MOT done along with my Boxster, passed no problem! Got my mate to drive it so I could see it rolling.

I was told they would fail it if it comes back next year with a less than 1000 mile increase since the MOT :dont know: :wack:

My Millers 10/50 NT+ arrived so I can now book it in for a service. :thumb:

Car has had some time spent on it. :D

A full day giving it a thorough clean, a full machine polish using the 2 stage Meguiars micofibre polishing kit, initially a cutting stage finished with a polish to remove any swirls and marks, came up great! I decided to use Soft99 Fusso coat as it gives long lasting results and as I've got a baby now, I just don't have the time to keep applying products on a monthly basis which give superior gloss but as a pay off, don't last long. The Fusso coat is perfect, the car is as glossy as it can be since I have just machine polished it and the Fusso will help lock that in and protect the finish. It can last up to a year but I find 6 - 8 months typical.

After all of that, it went for a minor service at Nine Excellence. Love popping here as there is also Porsche porn on display, I won't post pictures but lets just say GT2's of more than 1 variety, Carrera GT, 964 RS blah blah. Anyway, after a nice coffee and an hour perving, my car was ready and was kindly complimented on it's condition.

It looks like I only did just over 600 miles since the last service in 2017!! :nooo: Every time I get the car out, I love it and tell myself I need to keep it and just use it more, it's a great all rounder and for road use, anything faster is just wasted, I think my complaint is that the car needs to be used on the track to be enjoyed to it's potential, on the road, you cannot get near it's limits, in my area anyway! I will take it out more!!

Anyway, I provided 9E with 10 litres of Millers 10/50 NT+ as always, I was shown the oil filter and it was crystal clear and told to just not worry about this car scoring as it's still low mileage and benefited from the yearly changes with Millers. So all smiles.

Next, use the car more and I am going to try spraying the entire underside with a new product I've grown to love, Bilt Hamber Atom Mac. This stuff is superb!! I've used it on the Cayenne subframes and various metal work, it essentially inhibits rust from forming, I spray it on the brake discs before they get wet from washing the they barely have any reaction to the water resulting in rust! Brilliant as you won't dust your freshly cleaned wheels upon braking for the first time after a wash. It does work, so, coating the underside will help stop corrosion building up and parts rusting!

:worship: to the condition of your car.

It sounds like you need to get yourself across the water and down to 'The Fatherland' to fully enjoy the 911 ownership experience.

A nice trip combining autobahns and the fast twisties to be found in 'The Forests' would do your car justice.

Thanks!! I think I will bring this along to the next Fairmile meet.

I think I do, I loved the car more than ever when I took it over to Germany, it does need clear fast roads to really enjoy it although in the back of my mind, the replacement options are drawing me in but I want to concentrate on my 13 week old boy before I get distracted by a new toy and the mass of time I always put into them as soon as they get home. (That's with my sensible head on anyway)

Fantastic thread, Interesting to see the Hose kept it's seal on the 3rd rad and then suddenly started weeping over 3 years later,

It's a cracking car and reminds me very much of my own personal battle with my Demons in keeping them pristine..... EVERY Car i have ever had i was going to keep forever..... Subsequently the next owner gets a fantastic almost near Show car !

NORE IMPORTANTLY!!!!!! Enjoy the time with your Son !

And don't while away the years fretting over cars, My Son now 15 has not once shown any interst in Cars what so ever ! Despite me being quite prolofic with several over the years, I think i's one of those my Dad's out of date stance's...... A bit like telling them the song theylike is a re mix of a song that was out when i was a lad..... Just like my Dad did when i was young and happnin !

He;s 15 Next week, He;s a keen Rugby Player so we spend weekend's traveling around Yorkshire to Matches, Cricket, School takes up a great deal of time for obvious reasons, and as a result my infactuation with the Motor vehicle has wained over the past decade and a half, it's always been there but i'm a lot less ***** than i used to be, Scratches, Dings, Balls hiiting the car, Bikes in and out of the garage, the stuff you have had night mares about are all coming your way i too have been into Show & Shine, GTI International at Crowthorne every year back in the day, Audi meets, RWYB at Santa Pod...... Cleaning, replacing, polishing all took a back seat litterally while i turned my hand at becomming a Dad, over the summer Holiday's hes all of a sudden infactueted with Mini Cooper's ! we are now Talking about suspension, Replacement exhausts and air filters....... We have booked Him a day's driving on Sunday for his Birthday, he found out about it the other day and hasn't shut up on about it yet, Its almost as if he's invented not only driving but the Motor car as well...... I'm now being educated by 15 Year Old....

I vaguely recall when my son was 13 weeks old. It was a few months after I had to sell my first Porsche.

Seriously, their formative years are great fun but it'll get even better when you can go on a Eurohoon together and share in his first lap around 'The Ring'. For me that was well worth the 30 year wait. :D

Thank you! The hose was a bit of a strange one, crappy design but one used by the entire VAG group.

It is a bit of a bad habit of mine, I tend to get my cars all immaculate but then be scared to use them! As a good mate says, "Fresh for the next guy" when he looks at my cars.It drives me mad as I just can't sleep until their prestine again if they do get a little dirty.. lol

Great advice and story, appreciate that, it's all new for me at the moment and I am quite comfortbale stepping back from the car obsession, although at 13 weeks, he does take an interest in Nurburgring POV videos and bright cars on youtube videos, so that's a start :) Although a break for 15 years probably wouldn't be a bad thing, it may actually enable me to enjoy using a car  Thanks for that, that was a great little read!

That's what I am looking forward to! I am already in the process of planning his first trip there :floor: :floor: :floor: :floor: Although I may try and postpone until he is aware of where he is rather than trying to satisfy myself

Nothing much to update with here, just had the car out for a drive the other night, had my new iPhone 11Pro and wanted to try out the camera which now has a night mode..

Pretty blown away by the pics, considering they are just point and shoot in the dark and it is a phone, I am amazed. It would have taken ages to set up my SLR to achieve these results..

Anyway, was nice to have the car out on open roads, probably won't use it for a while now as I think the gritters are out! :frustrated: :nooo:

Great pictures from that er phone! Lovely car reminds me of my previous 997.1 which was a great motor albeit not quite as clean as yours. Really upset me when I sold it, talk about mental heatth issues! Only cheered up when I bought another one.
Thanks for the really interesting thread hope you keep it, babies really like them.

Great thread - really enjoyed reading it. Thanks Mark.

Especially as I'm about to join the 997 club, a 2006 C2 Cab. Even more so as its Artic Silver. Hoping to have a bash at making it a sweet looking as yours.

Cheers for the great content.
