New 997 owner. AC works, then cuts out? Gas topped up.

Checked for fault codes and found this.

Another clue.

Any ideas?

I have one theory in that I once used a DIY tin to get my system running again and I actually over pressurised my system on my Scooby Impreza when it was four years old. Which meant as the engine warmed up, the pressure sensors told the compressor to disengage the magnetic clutch. After, a few minutes of running.

The other thing I found out was that when I took it to the aircon specialist - their first thought was that the clutch was wearing out (there was a lot of dust around it) and they suggested as it heated up, it would be less and less effective.

Anyway, they checked the pressure, said it was too high, vacuumed it all out and refilled with new oil and refrigerant. It then worked perfectly for another 5 years!

All re-gassed and now under test. Hoping the poor compressor connection was the main fault.

I will monitor & update this post in a few months.

It's almost certainly the DIY bodge recharge that's the problem. If you've now had it vac'd and charged properly is suspect your problem will be resolved.

It wasn't a bodge re-charge. More of a quick test to check the pressure sensors & compressor cut in ok before I could get it to my garage. When it cut out after hitting a large bump, I'm confident that the poor compressor connection was the problem.

The 645 grams of temporary gas was removed, filtered & returned with some oil & topped up to the 900 or so grams after being vacced from 30 mins.

All good at the moment.

You said it was yourself :?:

I added some DIY gas to check for immediate leaks from the usual suspects, condensers, pipes & joints. The gas held & the AC blew cold. Great.....I'll just keep an eye on it and in a week or so I'll get it all vacced out & re-gassed properly.

If it wasn't weighed out properly, the leak found and fixed, and then pressure tested, vac'd and recharged then it was a bodge repair :hand:

Glad it sounds like you've got it all sorted and working now :thumb:

Sorry if I was a bit direct but being in the trade it boils my you know what that we can get fined and prison sentences etc, yet Joe public can buy a cheap kit and go spraying gas about all over the place into leaking systems. Most car garages are as bad too.

Tell me about it .. arguing with the office that i cant gas an a/c system if i know it has a leak .. i'm the one that goes to prison .. Not them .. sigh .

No i can't just regas it with dye .. wait till it leaks out then look for the dye .. i have to nitrogen test it .. that takes time they say , customer won't pay for that .. and so on ..

I don't want to be a Prison " boy " !

Can't win hey.

I added dye to mine, so if there is a leak, hopefully I'll find it easier.

Unless I'm in jail :cop:

You will have a leak then

Fortunately we opt to not do vehicles and push them off to the likes of you guys / garages :floor:

Unless youre FGas registered, just plead ignorance

If I do ever get 5 minutes spare, on my list of things to do is to complain to the regulator about these diy kits.
