I’ve just had an ‘upcoming event’ listed in my subscriptions on YouTube. World premiere for the Taycan scheduled for 4th September on the official Porsche channel.

Deposit day tomorrow !

Sounds like £135k Turbo S is the launch car....other models to follow around the £80k and £100k mark.

Carrera 4S, Turbo and Turbo S. Hmm, they sound familiar. Question

The naming convention seems to remove any doubt this is a four door electric 911, or at least Porsche want us to think so anyway.

Only a few hours to the official launch, and I can’t wait to see it in the flesh in Frankfurt. thumbsup

Sounds like an awesome car and a real step forward for electric vehicles. Not a fan of the naming convention though.

On the 911 all cars have turbos, whether or not they have turbo in the name
On the Taycan none of the models have a turbo, not even the Turbo or Turbo S

Well, I took a late lunch to watch this live and its a resounding “meh” from me. The performance figures are impressive but range is still an issue and it looks uglier than a Panamera Confused

I like the look of it. Unfortunately it's not as extreme looking as the mock ups, but it's not far off. Performance and range are acceptable, as is charge time. 100km in 5 mins is acceptable, and for 99% of driving, I'm sure it will suffice.
But it's missing the sound of the glorious flat 6.....and that's rather addictive

I don’t think the colour they presented it in did it any favours. It looked very ‘plasticky’, and I expect it looks a lot better in a darker colour. The presentation wasn’t that great either, and it felt like a bit of an anticlimax.

I love range figures for electric cars, my hybrid is quoted as a 30 miles range.......erm maybe at 2mph in 30 degree heat Rolling Eyes .......do not underestimate the effect of ambient temperature on range, in winter I get c60% of the range as I do in summer nooo

The Porsche site has a range predictor for different journey types and ambient temperature:
https://www.porsche.com/uk/models/taycan/taycan-models/

It doesn’t look promising. I have a weekly 280 mile round-trip commute and no means of charging (other than public charge point when away).

Anyway, as FZP wrote the biggest draw back is “it’s missing the sound of the glorious flat six”

I think it’s alright. Probably the only car I’d ever think of buying in white, mostly for the wheels.

Looking forward to hearing people’s views on driving them.

Just hope porsche have not let Moll do the batteries this time. frustrated

I was just wondering how they had a turbo’d battery car before I read your post Martin.
That’s a bit sad then isn’t it. Come back Cobra in the 996 forum, all is forgiven. Grin

Not sure why but I’ve absolutely no interest in this car. Probably the pricing and the fact it’s electric. I have no use or enthusiasm for a one.
I’m sure it will be a game changer though.
