I''ve decided to expand on the GT3C theme. Just for fun.

A Vauxhall Astra GTC lookalike. It could catch on.

Fair play Cobra you've taken a bit of stick over this but have remained polite and upbeat. :thumb:

As you know already it's nothing personal and these type of threads always raise a lively debate.

I've said what I would do, lose the obvious 'free to do" stuff then enjoy the car, but really as long as you're happy that's all that matters.
I often do subtle mods and things, I just think a line is crossed when a car is badged as something it isn't, but you aren't hurting anyone so don't sweat it.

Good luck with it and enjoy the good times with your sons. It's all about experiences at the end of the day.
I look forward to your updates. As has been said, your last thread had some great content.

Dammit. Now I can't un-see the Astra badge.

Thanks for your comments.

You'd might a swell do the GTE aswell, But flip the 3 so it reads like an E.....That too was on a Vauxhall Astra :dont know:

Just in case they might want to make a Grand Tourer Electric ? You never know, when we all have to have Nuclear power to charge these millions of vehicles, Some one might want to go for a 13 mile drive before running out of power and Claim that to be a long distance drive,

There's no point doing GTW, you can water from a tap in the garden or a lake and theres no way it can taxed so theres no point even going down the H2O Route...

Meanwhile......

Wow all the preachers here: 'remove anything that says GT3' 'it's an outrage, sacrilege, taking the name in vain, a travesty of a mockery of a shame...'

I think you all need to chill out, telling him to remove the dash because it dares says GT3. That's crazy, and as someone who has changed the dials in a dash, a lot of work and expensive.

Bottom line is this, if it makes you uncomfortable to have the badge On the rear then by all means remove it. I'd leave everything else, because it's expensive and difficult to replace sills etc (I know if done all of this). However if it makes YOU happy to have it there then leave it and enjoy. It's just a car and it's all about fun. Remember it's your car and it's only needs to make you happy. If anyone tells you to remove the badges just say 'when you buy it off me feel free to remove them'.

I have modified my 997 Turbo to exact GT2RS spec and yes it has the badges. I don't care what anyone else thinks about that because it's my car and it makes me happy. This is the closest to a 997 GT2RS I'll ever get and every time I remove the cover it makes me smile like the 10 year old me at Christmas. So furk everyone else.

I think people were only responding to the direct question the OP asked! :?:

Touched a raw nerve methinks.

WRT to the instruments, if the car is running a GT3 rev counter, is it just a GT3 dial on a standard rev counter? I expect that the GT3 rev counter goes to 9k but the carrera goes to 8k. Does this mean that currently the car is not reading the correct revs on the rev counter, or does it have a full GT3 dashboard? If it has the latter then it would be relatively easy to swap over but could have issues with the odometer reading. AFAIK there is no way to rescale the rev counter without the sort of nonsense I have been getting up to.

Looked into this today.

Not sure it's as simple as I first thought. The increment markers on my speedo, fuel gauge etc are in yellow. From what I've just seen on Google, the standard 997 markers are white/grey.

I quickly searched for GT3 cluster and they are all yellow. Hmmm.

Like this?

I will continue to explore.

And I think I have trouble considering un-modifying a Porsche.

Had a lovely day getting to know my new car today. Re-gassed the air con, inspected on a ramp, plugged in my old 996 Durametric laptop & explored the car electronically too. (Luckily it's a version that has upto 2006 models included)

Feels like my car now it's on C11BRA plates.

What a car. So exciting to drive. Found 2 tunnels & 4 underpasses. Can I share video? Recorded my mate driving it! Sounds incredible.

Ignore the badges.

Car looks great , my gen1 was very similar but I didn't want to badge it as a gt car as it wasn't so here's what I did . I decided that I was going to use a theme on the Porsche edition 918 turbo that they produced as a limited run for those buying 918 while they waited. So I called it Edition 911 sport using the same font .The dials are about an hours work to remove and an hour to replace , I had custom ones made . these can be any colour background or script etc. I badges the lower doors the same, I asked RPM to custom make me the oval door sill inserts in carbon which they did along with the carbon insert for the airbox . neither were silly expensive. the dials were about £100 custom made . oh yes to clearly your original post. the aero rear wing doesn't have the gurney strip as you noted and also is fixed whereas the gt3 wing is adjustable to 3 positions , clearly underneath the fans and air intake are different between the two.. Its your car and you do what makes you happy but thought you might be interested in what I did when in the same position as you.

Incredible cars. And the concepts are right up my street. Thank you SO much for your comment. Brilliant.

+1 on loose all the fake badges but keep the rest.

Just a question and not an observation, but are the rear hind quarters on a GT3 like the Turbo and 4S rather than the 2S?
