Glacier White 996.1 GT3 Aero Kit 1999

Looks good, welcome back to the 996 family!

In relation to the suspension knocking I had similar with my 1998 C2 and found it was the track rod ends. One was really knackered despite showing no play at all when testing with car jacked up.

Various other things that could cause similar but as my track rods were original I decided it was worth changing anyway.

Thanks Jay Man, shame your thinking of selling but sure It will find a new home fairly quickly, sounds nice and rare colour,

996driver, I had my thoughts on it being a track rod end too, after speaking with Jimmy P he said before he decided he was selling he had Centre gravity pin it down to being steering rack joint but was never rectified beforehand, Lots had been replaced by CG so cross fingers it's simply,

👍

Looks awesome in white and super clean. I'd be needing buckets in there ASAP though personally.

Look forward to seeing the ownership thread come along :thumb:

Small update,

Took the car into a Porsche and classic car specialist I use near me, (lots of great metal lurking about 993 964 944 Lotus Esprit etc all nice to nose at while I'm there,

Got it up on the ramp and I had a good look around underneath too, all with the intention of making a list of anything that needs doing, few things to note, the Knocking looseness on uneven ground feeling I'm getting he said is 100% sure to be down to front suspension control arms so I have ordered x2 CTE arms to be fitted and while in to check steering rack joints to be sure, also having H&R Springs fitted as the shocks look good along with new bump stops (I intend on changing to Koni sports next winter) H&R 15mm Spacers I purchased from JZM will be fitted, still deciding on front 10's so I will see, Service with Millers Nanodrive oil and filter + Air and cabin filters, LTT to be fitted, Spart plug and coil heat shields to be changed due to corrosion, a small Air con leak noted so that will be done, I'm going to go along to the workshop and clean all the underside and re coat with clear under seal, I will be doing a FULL deep clean in all four arches exhaust silencers front bumper rads etc,

Full Geo is booked, New Exhaust tips,

Everything else looked great few minor bits of surface rust on pipe clips etc but all will be done in time, Trying to decide on wheel colour I'm leaning on going full gloss silver (polished lip though) or buying some wheels I seen in the for sale section!! really shouldn't as by end of the week I'd have spent £1500 on the 996 already,

I have been driving It for the last few days to work and really loving It, Can't wait for all the other bits to be completed end of the week, this will then improve further on the feel and looks, I like to know all is 'well and clean' underneath so I want to get on the cleaning treating side of things :)

Other plans that I want to get done sooner rather than later

-Order GT3 dash centre dash delete,

-x4 New tyres (still deciding what to get) I had Yoko's AD08R's and liked them,

-GT3 Seats black leather or Cobra Nogaro buckets trimmed in hounds tooth

-Eibach front and rear anti roll bars

-TopGear 200cell Xpipe

I would love to know if any members have gone down the sunroof delete before? over complicated and over priced? pointless? obviously If i had the choice when it was new i'd have said no to it mine doesn't creak or leak I just miss the nice alcantara headlining my last one had and the clean roof line :puh:

Look forward to getting on with it all!

Good progress and plans. 8)

For me personally a car that had a sunroof delete would put me off massively when buying.
On a race car or track car where every gram counts then fair enough but on a nice road car its a mod too far for me personally.

If it has no roof from the factory then great but otherwise I'd leave it.
Plus it's massively over rated amongst forum nerds! ( I consider myself a form nerd too usually but not on this point).

It really doesn't make any difference to the feel of the car. I've driven plenty of sunroof and non-sunroof C2s and also GT3s (of which all are non-sunroof obviously) and it makes zero difference on the road. Non-whatsoever. And I'd guess the same on track.
It's just one of those nerdy things to pretend to be excited about, like amber lenses and 17' wheels.

The biggest 2 things that alter the feel of these cars are suspension and seats.
So spend the money saved by not doing the sunroof delete on proper coil-overs instead of the Konis and you'll be way more impressed than bastardising your roof.

I look forward to more updates though, I'm are you'll do the car proud. :thumb:

Have to admit I totally agree, I've never understood this sunroof delete option as a high priority.
I love being able to open it when going for a blast in good weather. Also helps when the Aircon isn't working

I performed the sunroof delete i.e. cutting out and welding in an entire new factory roof
- it was expensive, but I don't regret it for a moment

The car looks so much cleaner and well considered from the outside (no longer like a child has drawn a rectangle on the roof - how many good looking or high end cars have sunroofs anyway?), same from the inside with the benefit of more headroom/feeling of space. 80% of the creaks, clanks and rattles are gone with the removal of the sunroof and its mechanism...

It was the only big thing that bothered me about the car's factory options - like others, I wish Porsche had made it a cost option, rather than no cost

A C2 with the centre console delete and no sunroof just looks 'right'

NB. Before doing the work I spent over a year no longer opening the sunroof to decide if I would really be losing anything... I can genuinely say I don't miss it - air con and windows that open are all you need - why the appeal of added wind noise and the sun beating down on the of your head and glaring off the dash..?

Each to their own, however! They're our cars after all. :thumb:
