Porsche Fixed Price Servicing

Hi,

My 997.2 is due a minor service, according to the Porsche website its a fixed price of 525, however I have spoken to Porsche brooklands and Guildford and they have both quoted 756 and 795 respectively inc a MOT and brake fluid. Porsche brooklands also mentioned that they have aligned their pricing with other local OPCs.

The minor service includes replacement of pollen filter, oil, and brake fluid and general inspection.

Why would Porsche claim to have fixed price servicing and then their dealerships not offer it?

I would go to an indy, but my car has full OPC history and i want to keep it that way in the hope it helps in resale (though i never want to sell it!).

What has everyone else done? gone to an independent? or just paid up? Guess the service is only done every two years so not as bad (will do a yearly oil/filter change separately).

My local does fixed price. I'd shop around as like you, I want to keep all the stamps OPC, but not at any cost.

I just pulled this off our website to give you an idea indy v OPC ...

997 (Gen 2)

(2008 - 2012)

20,000 miles - £225.00

40,000 miles - £320.00

60,000 miles with spark plugs- £510.00

Brake Fluid change - £65.00

All plus vat .

If you want to only use OPC then that's fine .. i just wanted to point out .. after 10 years at an OPC , so the same person doing the same job ..

Imho .. all Indys are the same as mine .. well i hope .

I'm afraid fixed price at an OPC seems to be optional .. if they don't want to do it then they don't .. they are after all just Franchises run by Accountants .

Please don't take this as disrespectful, imho a good Indy stamp in your book will not effect the value and as you said you don't intend selling, alternatively do the job yourself, kept the parts receipt and enjoy getting to really know your car, at least you will know the jobs done.

DeMort, never met the man, to far away for me to use unfortunately, but from his posts and how helpful and knowledgeable he is, I for one would use him any day over any OPC.

It's a bit of a bop from Surrey way (where I am assuming you are based?) but, as DeMort knows, I am a fan of Tonbridge, Kent OPC. They do the fixed price servicing and I got 10% off for some repairs they quoted for. Good knowledge as I quizzes them on a few items of general knowledge and they came up trumps

Book it in far enough in advance and they'll sort you with a squint inducing Macan in either Mamba Green or Miami Blue. I had the green offering and a passer asked why such a lovely car was wrapped in such a hideous colour :worship: I promptly told them it was a courtesy car and thus not my choice of paint which wiped the smart ar#e look off their face. :puh:

I've just bought a 997.1 and as it has only ever had OPC I intended keeping it that way, it's fairly low on mikes and has had the structured maintenance lavished upon it as well as plenty of other work inc battery, tyres, brakes, clutch, coolant pipes, exhaust nuts bolts, All receipts show work and prices which are staggering......

I was quoted £1250 for a major service at OPC against £370 at an Indie ?

Needless to say the indie won that little battle and in all fairness did a cracking job, I will drop my own oil in the interim but use these guys for MOT and service work, although they did quote for NSF Coffin arm and strut top which I thought was severe ?

I would also like to visit Precision Porsche and have De Mort sprinkle his magic upon my vehicle but as has been said, logistics for me make it nigh on impossible l. Maybe we should chip in and buy him a van, have our own mobile master Tech

Just to break that down a lttle , assuming yours is a C4 & that its the 12yr big service ?
If so then £370 really doesn't sound like enough to carry out all the tasks done in that 12 yrs service .
I'm not for a minute saying its good value at £1250 but it covers pretty much every serviceable item & supposedly includes a inspection on all rubbers/gaskets/linkages etc ( ie - they look for other add on work to do  )
Id have expected a half decent indy to be charging £600/£750 for that service so worth checking exactly what they did for it :thumb:

I switched from Gudford to Brooklands on the basis that Brooklands DID adhere to the fixed price servicing whereas Guildford made up their own prices. It's annoying if they no longer do this.

I'd like to keep the opc service stamps so in March I'll be phoning around the OPCs to get the best prices for a service. Any additional work will be done by an indy.

OP, you must be near me, whereabouts are you based? There are a few good indies nearby that I could recommend.

I know what your saying, the £370 covered Oil, Filter, plugs, pollen and air filter, wheels off, bolts sprayed silver with a few coats in between working on the car, brake hubs sprayed Matt grey, nice touch I thought....... an attack of the underside with a pry bar on suspension components, gaiters etc.

A full report was given verbally at the time and then written up, as I say the front coffin arm has minimal play in it and the strut top too has a slight movement . Not enough to warrant changing yet. All rubber coolant hoses and even the exhausts bolts were checked but have all been changed recently before I purchased.
The mechanics report verbally...... prob the nicest example they've had in a long time ? It's clearly a well looked after car. Not be me at that point but that is on going.

I Paid extra for the belt, it has had one but I changed it for my own peace of mind, they were in there any way for air filter so was a no brained, X3 coil packs as they were cracked, same as belt they were in there for the plugs so all I got was the cost of the plugs no Labour and shiny heat shields for coils,
air con was disinfected and also re gassed another extra.

Tyres checked, all doors seals, engine cover front compartment all seals wiped with protectant, hinges sprayed, all in all a good 3 hours work and I'm not sure there was anything more he could have been done except the diff oil which I asked them to leave.

The car will be kept by myself and maintained regardless of cost, in my ownership it was never going to go back an OPC for little jobs like a battery swap on it or a wiper blade as it has done in the past, the umbilical chord had to be severed at some point and in all honesty and despite what the general consensus is on main dealer franchised stamps in a book..... I'm not all that impressed with their work and for me a good independent specialist is as much as I need for this car.

I do have other cars so this isn't my main daily driver, they are at main dealers and one is a Cayenne, so I am aware of their workmanship,

I switched from Guildford to Portsmouth after you mentioned also having issues at Guildford on pricing. Guildford were given the option to compete and they declined to move so no more business for them.

It's a bit further for me but courtesy cars always provided or there is a collection service available.

New regime is OPC for stamps and Precision for everything else. Worth the hour each way 👍

I opted away from OPC's on my 997.1. It now has 33k miles but I stopped OPC at 28k. I did have to think about it as the mileage was so low, a full OPC stamped booked looks nice for the next owner but realistically, it makes no difference other than the book looking pretty.
I saved money by going to an Indie and got a warmer feeling there. I did try to give OPC Guildford a go but they were very robotic, no cuddles, just 1 in, 1 out, gimme your money..

Indie for me.

Agree, just keeping it up there on the off chance that it will increase re sale values is counter productive in my opinion, if it were a 991 I'd be in there no questions.

These are the opc's who offer fixed price services. Got mine booked in for a 10 year at Wilmslow next week, quoted me £525.00

I use an indy in Brackley spot on work and honest.....and you know that an OPC wont just service it they will find a shed load wrong with it and suddenly you bill will double..................... :hand:

Tonbridge is one OPC i've heard nothing but good things about as MattyR said and one we use for parts on a daily basis .

I'm afraid a lot of OPC,s and the mechanics are now distant from the service advisors .. it's a computer report ( VHC ) thats sent direct to parts to price and then onto the service advisor .. there is no talking between the mechanic and the service advisor .

We mechanics flag things as yellow , advise and red .. its broken or needs urgent attention ..

The service advisors tend to try and sell anything yellow and red ..

yellow .. to me means advise .. often im trying to tell you this part will need replacing next service so be aware of that .. erm ...

That's 2 years away .

Hence at an OPC you tend to get a " list " ..

Indys are a bit more sensible .. i hope .. and will explain what actually needs doing now and why .

My advise .. always ask to speak to the mechanic .. that will certainly throw them .. and the mechanic !! .. he will be honest though .

I'll also advise my old OPC .. Mid-Sussex .. some fine mechanics there .. just ask for certain mechanics to work on your car as i know some that are far better than i will ever be or dream of being .. pm me for details if needed .
