What did you buy your 993 this week ?

by popping the r/h headlight pod and feeling the pipes to the cooler carefully. That's when to check the oil level.
Flat Palm on the OS Rear Wing, in front of the Rear Wheel.. Feel that for Oil Temp.. Hot hot, needs more Oil..

As far a reading the oil level in the car, I've had no success at all, simply cannot see where the oil is on the dipstick. :nooo:
Dip Stick isn't the best way.. Go for a Drive, warm the Engine up nicely, then find a [preferably] unpopulated place to pull up. Rev the Engine so that the Oil Temp Needle sits at the 9 O'Clock position; the Oil Level needle needs to be at the 3 O'Clock position at Idle..

I got a top tip when I went to the PCGB 993 tech forum at Swindon, they use the same procedure as above, but to get the oil up to temp pop a blanket or towel over the spoiler grill. I do this after a drive, just takes a few minutes for the temp to come up to 9 oclock, then pop some oil in to bring the needle upto to 3 oclock to kiss the temp needle. Works a treat.

Problem is I have no confidence that my oil level indicator is accurate or in fact working at all, as it has never moved from what I can tell.

I cannot ascertain the oil level from the dipstick either, all I can go on is the total amount I've put in there.

It should move marginally when driving..

When was the last time you put Oil in your 993..? It might be that you're running at a tolerable but low level..

If it has been hundreds/thousand miles since, you should be able to add some Oil without risk of overfilling to check that the Needle is in fact working.. Remember that a 993 holds a lot of Oil in the System, so get a mate/friend/helper to assist you with the revving etc. [or towel! - love that tip!] and fill the Oil up a 500ml/litre at a time, measured and poured using a Pyrex or similar..

I was surprised/relieved when I popped into Toulouse OPC on a RoadTrip and the Mechanic [who loved 993s!] basically poured litres into my Carrera, I think it was 4-5L all up.. I knew I was low because a) i had run out of my on board 4L I had stashed in the Frunk, and b) just had a feeling..! That was when I learned of the Tip I posted a couple of replies ago.. 8)

John at Unit 11 did just this on mine when it went in for a recent service. It's the first time I'd seen it done, but it works a treat and did get up to temperature pretty quickly :thumb:

Drove to Portsmouth OPC on Friday for Rod Emory evening, which was absolutely fantastic..

Then after a Weekend n Southsea, decided to keep the mileage down on the 993 so called the AA and had them transport it home.. :?:

Actually, the Alternator Bearings failed, and I didn't wanna chance nursing it home..

Was great, I wish it had been a longer session, was over so quickly. Shame about the weather too, would have been such a great evening with some sun.

Resistor for rear blower (#96461655002) so the fan now works on both low and high speeds.

Air con filling valves (#99657346500 filling) (#92857346600 pressure side) to replace existing valves one of which blows bubbles so I presume is leaking.

First time post on this thread so here goes

1. Service and MOT booked in for this Friday
2. Air con being sorted in October (fingers crossed). Ive booked her in with Alpinair. Sam seems to know what he is talking about.
3. Noticed a rust bubble on drivers door, so Kieran and Harpenden Classics etc is sorting that out
4. New set of lights arrived the other day to go with the rear reflector and headlight lenses i have had sitting in the garage for over a year. Just need to decide what to do with the fog lamps. I am leaning towards replacing with air ducts (can get them painted when the door is being sorted), beets 300quid for a new fog lamp.

Phew that's it for now

993RS style Momo steering wheel with Porsche crest. Much more comfortable driving position as it brings the wheel closer to me and gives my legs more room.

I swear the car is quicker.

Do get the genuine Tubo S ducts from Gert some of the cheap copies are just that. I didn't bother with the brake cooling just left is as an extra vent to the front rads with a short length of trunking for a more finished look.
The new led fogs are converted to DRLs and an extra bulb put in for parking lights.

Im sorry but your quite wrong, the aftermarket versions are spot on and at £100 a set, a fair saving on the Porsche versions at £450 ish. When fitted they are completely indistinguishable from Genuine.
