When I had my ppi done the specialists (Quorn Sports and Classics in Loughborough, highly recommended!) they pointed out the state of the manifolds, they aren't leaking but they are rotten... so I've been keeping an eye on eBay and scored a brand new pair of stainless 'direnza' manifolds for £82...ðŸ˜‚ðŸ˜‚ðŸ˜‚ I'm quite sure they are not 'good' but they have to be better than what's on there?

Back from 2 weeks in Turkey (Russians everywhere....) and had a couple of deliveries so would be rude not to get stuck in ðŸ˜‚

First off some cheap wheel caps arrived from China via Aliexpress... and when I say cheap, I mean Jesus h Christ cheap! $7.99 including shipping!!! :floor

I wasn't expecting very much for the price, and I have heard all the stories about how the badges fall out and/or the caps fall off, but all 4 of my caps were really shoddy and making the car look shabby so thought I'd risk the $8... ðŸ¤£ As it turns out the colour match isn't great so I set about removing the old badges from my old caps, then cleaned them up and fitted the new rubbery plastic badges to the original caps. They aren't perfect, and you can see that the removal holes don't line up quite right, but to me they are a massive improvement .

Again I've read lots about these and how they need a bit of fettling, but I am pleasantly surprised at how much of an improvement it is once fitted.
My centre console is already out (and being prepped for painting..) so it was a 30 minute job to fit this, and it's taken the 1st to 2nd 'throw' from around 16cm as standard to around 12.5cm, with a nice positive feelðŸ‘

Ticked off another little job last night...

I have been a bit bothered for a while about the exhaust tips on my car. The previous owner fitted a pair of the 'S' tips (with 4 outlets) as he thougth they looked better, I agree that they do so would like to keep them but when you look down on to them from above, you can see a small bit of the housing, which by now is all rusty, the same as the rest of the exhaust, and that annoyed the OCD in me....

So today I unbolted them (well, one bolt snapped when trying to undo it...), cleaned them up with wirewool and autosol, wire brushed the rusty bits, then masked them and sprayed with VHT

Small victories...

As I have changed the PCM for a more modern unit, I have the option for a reversing camera, and so £7 on ebay later I have a camera and a spare afternoon....

So started by removing the rear bumper, this really is very simple other than the 2 torx bolts in the wheel arch which are a bit trick to access if you cant be bothered to remove the rear wheels (which I couldnt...).

Once that was off I tried to figure out the best way to run the wire in from the OS rear lamp area (where you tap into the reversing loom wire) into the interior... a quick google revealed a suitable grommet with plenty of 'void' area, so once located I got my longest drill bit and put a hole in it.... then I fed an unwound wire coat hanger through and pulled the wire in from the interior.
The online videos show the blue/brown wire to be the right one for the reverse feed, and I tracked the solid brown wire on the same block to earth, so once they were tapped it was just a case of drilling a small hole in the bumper and mounting the camera and connecting it up. Then I ran the cables inside the car along the sill and tucked it up behind the trim, and behind the dash and up to the head unit. The head unit then connects a video phono lead, and a wire from the camera to the reversing camera input (so that it automatically switches to the camera feed when you hit reverse).

After that bumper cover back on, rear lamps back in, rear trims back into place and it all works.... BUT... it looks $hit, and its pretty useless as it points too far down... so I will search around for a better camera and make sure it uses the same connector so I dont have to run the wiring again..... :floor:

Thinking it through, might go for one of these and mount it in the towing eye cover, seems as though it will fit nicely and wont show too much as my car is black :thumb: it also uses the same connector so I wouldnt have to change the wiring..

Also got a bit of time to switch over the roof bars to the black pair I bought, and to cut down the rear one in line with how the porsche roof trnsport system looks :thumb: I trimmed about 8.5 cm from one end of the rear bar, looks much better now without the overhang IMO

Thank you for the kind words Mike :thumb: I am certainly not clever, but I am probably a bit over confident in my own abilities :floor: , I just view these cars the same as I did my mini's or even bmx's when I was a kid, ie they are just a bunch of bits of metal bolted together, and if they break there must be a way to unbolt bits of it, fix it and bolt it back together :thumbs:

I cant take any credit at all for the front splitter on this car as the previous owner had it fitted. My understanding is that its a 997 Turbo splitter that was cut in the centre to fit the narrower front bumper, then plastic welded and painted body colour. It does add quite a bit of presence to the front end.

Well I took my centre console out and apart some time ago now, it was scuffed and scratched and the soft coating was looking decidedly ropey, so I thought it was time to refresh it as it let the rest of the interior down, plus it gave me a better excuse to sort the short shifter :floor: .

I had decided previously to paint it body coloured (Basalt Black), and ordered up a couple of tins of pre mixed paint and lots of lacquer, but then I saw an almost identical 997 (but S model) at a Porsche meet at Hatfield that had its console painted body coloured, and it looked a bit odd... cant quite explain why, it was well finished (probably a lot better than I would have achieved) but there was something not quite right about the way it looked in the car, regardless I pressed on and thought I would try the radio surround/AC units in body colour too. Well once those were done I didn't like it at all, and have since repainted them to satin black as per Gen 2, so I decided to stick with plain satin black on the console too.
Spent this weekend flatting the console back to get rid of the soft touch paint, then prepped with plastic filler spray, flatted back again, primed and painted with 3 coats of satin, then polished. Came out pretty well, although will need to redo the ash tray cover as a fly landed on it whilst it was drying... :x

Great thread and many thanks for the link to Aliexpress for the wheelcaps. Mine arrived today and I've just fitted them. I think they are spectacular value for money ( I ordered 2 sets because they are so cheap ) The colour ( Grey ) even matches my wheels perfectly.
I was thinking of ordering the short shift kit now but I can't seem to get it with free delivery like you did.

Glad to be of some help Rob, let us know how they hold up long term. I didnt like the look of the caps themselves as they didnt match my wheel colour so just used the badges :thumb:

No clue on the shortshifter, I wonder if I got a discount for signing up for the first time?

Well this happened yesterday.... :worship:

Thank the lord for Facebook, and for people that don't want to sell on ebay, as I was able to snap these 19" Fuchs replicas on Marketplace for £350 :thumbs:
No idea who made them as there are no manufacturers marks, maybe Kerscher? ill investigate a bit further... The previous owner had them on his C2S for 5 years before swapping to lobsters. They are obviously cast and quite heavy at 13kg each front, 13.7kg each rear... Offsets seem to be around standard spec, had to measure as again no markings that I can see: ET56 on the front, ET58 on the rear. Fronts are slightly wider than standard at 8.5J so will probably get a small spacer for the back wheels to keep them level in relation to the arches.

They need a good refurb and I'm undecided whether to go with straight black again or polished spokes, or even silver... hmmm... decisions decisions... suggestions?
