Hello everyone

As a soon new porsche owner , and also new in UK, I would like to know if it is better to get a 997 2S rather than a normal 997 carrera
i just think it is complicated to enjoy fully the power of the Carrera 2S and all its ability on the country road
I am close to nottingham and is there close to nottingham a circuit where i can enjoy a bit of fun

thank for your advice

Donnington and Caldwell park spring to mind for track days.
I went 2s simply because I like the spec over a base 997 but reality is they are both quick cars and beyond using their full potential legally on the public highway. I'm not into driving overly fast on public roads, make good progress yes but I've picked the pieces up too many times from too many people who 'thought' they could drive.
I'm not a kill joy, I love driving quickly but best to save it for the track :D
Good luck finding the right car for you.

yes they are fantastic cars and yes driving safely is the point
I tested a 997 Carrera 2S and a 991 2s i will tested a carrera next week and decide after but my heart is going to a 2S
it is to find the car with the correct equation mileage/ price
I am always questioning myself regarding the maintenance cost with a car over 65000 miles

thank for the info of the driving place

Personally I wouldn`t be looking for a 997.1 S 3.8, I don`t personally know anyone who has not had bore scoring on this engine ( except for Phil997, who sadly had an engine failure on a later 997.2 S ).

PPI is a must if you do, before you buy one.

Don`t forget Mallory Park, a great little race track, we`ll be there on the 5th September

:welcome: to 911uk

I'd definitely be looking for a Gen2 car. You can get a newer/lower mileage 3.6 for the same money as an older/higher mileage S.

I've got a Gen2 C2 PDK. Very happy with it and never needed more power.

I have a 997.2 C2, started out looking at gen 1 S', did a bit more research and decided i wanted a Gen 2 S, realised it's usually the spec that's better on the S', the extra horsepower doesn't really translate to much. I'd be open to both C2 and C2S. I found a C2 with high spec so went for that, definitely not a let down performance wise coming from a Golf 7R, but i wanted a manual C2 because i think the PDK would of felt old coming from the slick DSG box in the R. For me i think the older Porsches suit a manual better, love it!

I was in the same position recently & was close to buying C2S C4S but in the end decided to ignore the "S" & extra bhp & buy what i considered the better car as in condition & history .( i was particularly after one which had intermediate oil changes as 20k / 2yr intervals seems crazy to me )
Buying around the 12/13 yr old mark i was staggered to find a majority of the cars i was interested in had not even followed the correct 20k/2yr history regime from new & only 1 had the 12yr MAJOR service carried out (the 1 being the one i now own)
It is possible to find well specced non S cars , mine has Bose , nav , heated seats extended leather etc but i would advise looking at a few to compare condition & how they sound / drive , then scour the history then form your own opinion over 2 / 2 s 4 / 4 s
Good luck :thumb:

I agree, also surprised at scare mongering like this on this forum. There is a risk of bore scoring obviously, but just ensure you have a decent PPI done before buying including a bore scope, or buy a car which has had a recent engine rebuild done by a reputable specialist.

A nice 997.1 C2S can be purchased considerably cheaper than any 997.2 unless it's done galactic miles.

I've just purchased a 997.1 S 3.8 on 87k with a clear bore scoring test. You really need to understand the percentages regarding bore scoring and IMS issues rather than making sweeping statements based upon someone you know having an issue. These 'risks' are way over inflated to the point that its quite comical.

I have just bought a 997.1 C2S with 65000 miles. No bore scoring, fantastic car, great value.

I too opted for the 997.1 C2s it came with a great warranty so didn't even bother with a PPI although I wouldn't recommend this to anyone else after 3 month my curiosity got her better of me and I took the car to a well know indi in my area to have the bore scoped all fine so I had a oil and filter done I asked what I could do to minimise the risk in future he recommended oil and filter between services and using a decent fuel, I asked if I should fit the 3rd radiator kit and a low temp thermostat he didn't think the 3rd radiator would do much and maybe fit the low temp thermostat next service but the most important thing he told me is the percentage that have problems is very small and I should really concentrate on enjoying the car which I am now doing, I think there are more scare stories than actual problems I know it happens and it must be very disappointing but I think it is rearer than people make out

Shouldn't that be "scoremongering" :p if it wasn't then it should be recognised terminology from now
As others have said above this forum is its own worse enemy at times , i almost bought a 997 4 months ago , rejoined the forum after a 7/8 yr absence ( couldn't remember my log in so started fresh) & the whole negative vibe on here from longterm members / short term members & official members pushed me to buy a Z4 35is  http://911uk.com/viewtopic.php?t=133234&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0
spent the next 3 months doing my homework & then decided id crack on like i have with any other used sports car ive bought . Buy the best (not the first ) you come across that you can afford
