This is all exactly what I experienced, at first I was a bit doubtful about how much it had improved the car. Think I was expecting a 'huge' change but that never happened, it's more subtle.
Then I took it off and ran it for a few weeks and then I could really tell how much it changes the car, for me the car is a lot more comfortable and planted on the road, Sport mode is actually usable on normal roads.
For what you'd pay for lowering, stiffening and a trip to an alignment specialist I think it's a cheap fix.
Another good thing to do is drive a 2002 Boxster for a long trip then hop into your 997 turbo, you really will appreciate how good it is
