Hi all,
Anybody got a clear view of a way to get a magnetic sump plug that doesn't cost £25? I know I probably sound a bit cheap but really? £25? its a sump plug with a magnet... has anybody tried an ebay cheapie? do the magnets just fall out?

ebay seems to throw up a few alternatives, not sure if anyone has a view or if its just a case of pants down because its a porsche?

£24 fro D911:

£6.24 jobbie:

£15 ebay:

Don't bother with the cheap ones, I bought one, magnet was glued on, not even straight, still sitting on the shelf in the garage.

Just buy a magnet and glue it to your sump plug.

No, but how hard can it be? If I did I'd machine a pocket in the plug for it to sit in.

Maybe I'm missing the point, but what exactly are magnetic sump plugs supposed to do? Most debris will be caught by the filter anyway and the majority of the engine is aluminium... :?

Quite a large portion of the engine is steel, the crank and rods for example, piston rings, cams, valves etc... Its just another way to monitor what is happening in the engine.

Doesn't tearing open the filter on an oil change do the same thing?

Only if you have a magnet
