First 911 - Early 2004 3.6 Gen 1

Looks like you brought a nice car there HD , the tandem pump looked about usual , when you need one auto doc are the best price and wait for one of their regular discount offers. there is a replacement cover avail made from a material that won't rust for about half the cost of a new pump.

the Mesh, I always was worried at the thought of drilling holes in the PU and cable ties so mine were bent over round the edges to marry up to the underside of the opening wall on the PU and then clear silicon used to stick them in place , it was removed once for a bumper respray and then refitted other than that its never come loose of been an issue and looks far more OE than zunsport .

glad your using Pagid discs etc, I have only ever used a cheap option once and they were on the car for a day and removed and returned, the wheel wobble was unbelievable ,so had assumed it was another nasty no R&D fake copy from china .

keep us posted on progress and what you find out about the engine number :thumb:

Thanks for the kind words and advice everyone :thumb:

Had a productive day on saturday, decided that as carpartsforless still havnt sent my discs out (grrr.....) I might as well do the grills on the front bumper. So armed with various online tutorials from here (literally) and there I set about getting the front wheels off. Well fail no.1 there, some idiot had done the wheel bolts up with an airtool, so had to get a scaff pole on a breaker bar to get them undone.... made sure I wire brushed them and lubed them with copperslip when I reinstalled.... so car in the air and front wheels finally removed I finally managed to get the bumper off :)

So bumper finally off, onto the grass in the back garden and then it was onto the grills, gave the tin snips a blast with WD40 and off we go! Wasnt sure whether to try putting them inbetween the bumper and rubber gasket thingy, but decided that was too much like hard work, so cut to the shape of the rubber bits and then folded a lip around them so they sat snug.
Had some silkaflex lying around from a previous car spoiler install so ran a bead around the opening then pushed the grills into it and weighed them down with various 'stuff' to dry... :thumb:

So while that was drying I had another couple of things to attend to....

the air con condenser brackets were looking a bit rusty, so while the bumper was off it seemed rude not to give them a blob or two of hammerite...

Id also previously cleaned up the old 'carerra' badge that id taken off and painted it gloss black with new double sided foam so that went on too which was satisfying as they are at least £50 to buy

That's a stunning motor pal, I'm the same been looking at a 911 for my next car and started looking at 996's but don't really like the look of them so a gen 1 997 it will be.

Are you loving yours?

Couple of bits arrived 8)
Rear discs finally came from carpartsforless... and the bluetooth adapter thingy from amazon. Will be fitting both over the weekend :thumb:

I fitted the bluetooth adapter in a couple of hours on Friday night, process was painless as there are so many instruction videos and guides (just search LAPower or Mr12v). It probably also helped that my car has phone prep, NAV, CD changer and no Bose :)

I wont use either the aux input or the SD card, so I secured the unit under the lower dash/footwell area near tot he aux power socket in the passenger footwell. I routed the mic up behind the passenger carpet, around the side of the dash and around the top of the windscreen so that the mic could be attached to the interior light console where its out of the way. It seems to be working fine, although I cant seem to answer calls via the buttons on the PCM so will probably see if that's a common issue... the music streaming works perfectly though with the track skip buttons all working from the PCM controls.

All in all though a great upgrade and means I probably wont bother changing out the PCM :thumb:

Next task was to wait for the rain to abate to do the discs. The heavens finally stopped on Sunday morning, so I set to the task, armed with more internet guides and plenty of brake disc cleaner, a wire brush and a tub of copperslip :)

I have to say it went painlessly, and my only concern is that the pads I got (Pagid) didn't come with any backing plates/anti squeal shims, so I lubed liberally with copperslip and they seem to be fine so far with no noise...

I am glad I did the brakes as they hadn't been done since 2012 and 60k, so it wasn't a surprise to find that the pads has cracked in places, the discs were severely scored, with pretty much all the holes on the rear face clogged up with pad material, and on one of the pads the backing plate was coming away from the friction material... Went up and down a nice clear straight A road to bed the pads in a bit and it feels so much better! stops well, with good feel, I am sure it will get better as they bed in.

I also inspected and adjusted the handbrake pads as per the advice on the various videos (tighten to a stop, then back off 4 'clicks' of the adjuster), but they handbrake is now far too high in the cockpit (probably comes up 6 clicks) so will go back and adjust this some more when I can get time.

I also won an ebay auction on friday for a Tequipment fitted outdoor car cover, and after I had paid I got a lovely message from the seller offering to deliver it on sunday as he was in my town visiting his mother.
Lovely guy called Tony from Kent area, used to have a 997 GTS (hence the cover) and currently has a 991 Turbo as well as a Ferrari 458 (as you do...). No idea if he is a forum member as I stupidly forgot to ask, but really nice of him to pop it in and it fits a treat

Very nice work! With the brake discs did you give the face of the wheel bearing a sanding to get rid of any corrosion and/or check the run-out of the disc after it was installed?

I only ask as it's often the source of "warped" discs in the future due to uneven disc wear. I speak from bitter experience having failed to do this myself on a car with discs that were over £400 each :frustrated:
