Long story but here is a short version. I'm selling a Classic Alfa Romeo, its currently at a Garage in Leatherhead Surrey for inspections by prospective buyers.
I've been approached by a chap who wants to buy it pending the sale of his car. He has this for sale.
We have agreed a deal for my car, plus funds his way. He seems like a genuine guy, and is saying the right things and asking the right questions.
Is the car known to the community at all?
My garage has agreed to do an inspection, but they are not a Porsche specialist - any suggestions on how I could get a better inspection done on Saturday morning in the Leatherhead / Surrey area?
Obviously the things I'm worried about are the usual, bore scoring, over-rev etc etc.

IMO that is too expensive for a Cat D on those miles... should be more like £15k

Thanks mate, I'm not paying the sticker price don't worry.
Was more interested in whether the car is known?
And also whether anyone local might be able to help me inspect on Saturday morning - even better if they bring their laptop and PIWIS durametric cable...

Seems to be a good car, was the replacement engine a new engine or a rebuilt unit? Same with the gearbox.
If the mileage is genuine then it's only done 28k on the new engine so should be good, no harm in checking though.

Front end impact, but no pics or invoices of repair.

Front end impact on a 911 is a BIG repair bill, rads - AC condensors - Oil coolers and all the bits that hold them on plus a bumper. Do you have any idea of the extent of the damage i.e. pictures etc.

A Porsche isn't a car id rush into chief. All the signs are there from a "motivated seller" point of view, and motivated seller usually equals dodging a bullet on their behalf. If I were looking at a 997.1, id want a proper PPI from a specialist as we've seen recently that when someone without the right experience, can result in a misdiagnosis and cause you further cost or missed opportunity. If he's not willing to wait for a PP, then I'd walk away.

Sorry as I don’t want to put a damper on this but if this had come my way I would be thinking why such a limited info about Cat D, surely if this happened to my car and I repaired it right then I would specifically point out All the work and the costs for putting it right. Lack of it might suggest otherwise.
Secondly, imho, when there are so many 996 for sale why would I go for a Cat D one knowing that when it comes to selling it then it will not be the easiest to sell a Cat D car as it may well put buyers off and it is a bit hard to price it, whether buying or selling it.

The 'MOT checker' shows that the car had done 57k miles in 2009 and 64k miles in 2010 so the engine change was done 9 years ago.
3 missing MOTs bears out what the seller says about the car being abroad for a while.
If a professional inspection all checks out it would seem a good buy if you're getting it for less than £15k and are planning to keep it a while.

Sorry - it was repaired in 2013, probably more than 1 owner ago - hence why I can't push for evidence.

Yep, you can see on the advert that the engine replacement was done at a Porsche dealer in Reims.
MOT history isn't impeccable either - any idea why it would have failed an emissions tect back in 2017? seems it was shortly fitted with new Lamda sensors and then passed the MOT... I can't quite work that one out.

Sorry I hadn't looked beyond the pics of the car but the 'story' seems genuine enough.

Failing on emissions isn't common on a well looked after car unless the Lambda Oxygen sensor is 'goosed', a replacement would sort that issue out so not a lot to worry about there.
It looks a nice car and TBH the engine alone is worth a fair wedge of cash!
I'm just in the process of putting right an accident damaged car and I've specifically asked the body shop to take pictures all the way through to show what's been done. _________________ 997 Turbo Gen 2

I wouldn't touch it at even £10k.
It is a 350BHP car, 0-60 in 4.5 seconds - if you have a death wish, go for it!
New engine, new gearbox, who knows what else. The seller is clearly desperate to sell, telling a story about points on his license.

I wouldn’t be scared of a cat d car, but I would want to know the extent of the damage, also the advertised price is way too much imho, so you do need a decent discount from that.

I've also fitted a new genuine Porsche badge (very expensive), and replaced the key with the newer style genuine Porsche key (also at great cost!)
not owned the car very Long, and i always wanted a 911 - but i received a very large speeding ticket in the first few weeks which has made me worry for my license and ruined my joy in the car
He just wants rid - a speeding ticket would not provoke most people into selling

Clearly he is willing to part ex for absolutely anything that actually works!
I am guessing he has lost a lot of sleep over his impending repair bills.
It is a Cat D, lived in France, Germany, who knows where else, has had a new engine (which most likely has been done all wrong) and new gearbox.
He is moaning about the cost of a badge, a key and a speeding ticket - I am guessing those are the least of his problems.
