Lowering springs - wanting to loose that wheel arch gap!

ok so i spent most of my evening playing around with tape measure and veneer callipers, reckon I have around 46-48mm gap currently.

Admittedly my Michelin PS2 are down to around 3-4mm so their shoulder is a little rounded off.

I hear the comments about the ride on the H&R the car is a toy over a daily can anyone with the H&R set comment on ride?

The techart used set look like a good deal but I am still worried that its only 15mm lower then what i have now. leaving me approx 30mm gap over a 15mm gap with the H&R

I test drove a car with H&R's fitted and I thought the handling was excellent, with the PASM in normal it was still compliant and not crashy. Obviously you have to be more careful on sleeping policemen etc but thats true of all lowered cars. the stance was very good on the H&R's

Thanks for this, personally i press PASM for the throttle sharpness and then turn off the shock button as its to crashy for my local roads. so your comments is very useful cheers

I had techarts on my gen1 very happy with ride and hight, the gen2 has H&R still happy with the ride and hight the only difference between the cars was the gen2 has PASM the gen1 Didn't and with PASM I have fitted the DSC upgrade module to stop my fillings falling out in PASM on mode. the DSC also allows the sport to be pressed without the PASM and visa versa which is good

I've just fitted Techarts to my 997.1 followed by a visit to Centre Gravity and can say I am more than happy with them... The ride is perfect, not harsh and very planted, a lot of this came after set up.

As for ride height.. i wasn't expecting Techarts to be that extreme but after set up I think I have 97mm ground clearance on the front and 110mm on the back. (Not sure the exact measuring points but was told this is lower than a GT3)

Don't really have a problem on anything grounding out, even took it on a ferry and tunnel without any problems.... occasional hear the brake ducts touch so will need to change them in time.

I think it's made the biggest difference to my car both in looks and handling.

Only advice would be to visit CG after, best money you will spend.

I'm perfectly happy with the ride and handling of my 9972 on H&Rs with PASM and the TPC Racing DSC module: if I want to waft around, I can leave it in auto/PASM normal and I can let the car roll, lean and breathe a little. It feels roughly on par with my other car (which has à–hlins R&T coilovers) when I'm running full soft winter settings. Until you switch to PASM Sport which tightens things up considerably.

Roll, lean and breathe. I like that :thumb:

Thanks. I'll use it again.

I should try and take some more and better pictures on absolutely flat ground, in decent light, and from exactly the right perspectives, so we can see how the car sits with 19" OZs, Michelins, H+Rs and 12mm spacers all round and - this is key - with the fast road alignment of -1.15 degrees of camber at the front and -1-5 degrees at the rear.

The realignment does pull the tops of the tyes in somewhat, so they look more 'tucked' (to use the lingo).

opens new can of worms!

12mm spacers all round over 7mm / 15mm as per what i thought was the considered format

Yes, exactly, this was my point. There are a lot of variables, and I just wanted to lay it all out. Not all cars are the same, they don't all have the same set up, ride hieght or even the same tyres.

As to tyres, the Michelins have a big lip (my semi slicks have a very different, very square profile), and it all makes a difference to how the car sits, and how it looks.

And in addition to my set up, I also have a wide body (my car came on 11.5 inch wide Carrera Sport optional rims, so I felt that didn't need 15mm at the rear).

And I want a wider track at the front to improve steering feel and turn in. (As an aside, I tried some little 7mm spacers but they were crap and the wheels wobbled terribly. They need to be hubcentric.)

And with all that additional negative camber, it turns out I could run bigger spacers too as the wheels are tucked. Not to mention the ride hieght on H+R lowering springs - whatever it was -25mm.

In other words, if I ran factory (non-optional) rims with factory camber settings and a factory ride height (or sports ride height, or whatever) with semi slick tyres, the 997 would sit quite differently.

And I haven't even thought about rims, their shape and their colour (mine are a very dark graphite grey covered in brake dust).

Hence my though to provide some better pictures and my own version of a 'base line'.

I've got the H&R -30mm on mine and love the way it looks. It needed spacers to get the look. The ride is a bit hard and steep sharp inclines can be tricky but the handling is great.

As you can see from the shot at the V-max event the back end really squats down under full acceleration.
