993 oil leak

Can anybody recommend a competent engine repairer within 'reasonable' travelling distance of Bournemouth to rectify an oil leak(s) possibly coming from timing chain covers?

If you are any good with the spanners this is a DIY. I did all the "usual suspects" a year back. Very satisfying work and you get to know the car. Sad to say mine still leaks :sad: (see my thread further down)

How difficult was getting to the chain covers...is it a case of dropping the engine?

Below are links to my posts when I did the usual suspects for the oil leaks I had, hopefully you'll find them useful. I took my time and all turned out well. As you may have read my final leak looks to be a "Through Bolt" which is a full engine out and a full engine strip down and re seal. The leak is small so I won't be doing the job anytime soon but will have it done eventually by a professional. It's just a bit too much for me to drop the engine, plus I don't have the special tools required to do a strip down.

Marque21 in Bridport would be my preferred garage if your not into getting your hands dirty. Tim and the crew at Marque21 are great. The guy that owned my car before me had it looked after by them for the last 16 years, its a true testament to the quality of their work.

Have you ever replaced the chain cover gaskets and seals?

Yep, I have one of those too; pencilled in for 2020..

Topically enough, I just had the Engine Cover off mine whilst up on the Ramps and, despite every piece of Rubber & Plastic replaced at the start of last year, I have weeping Rocker Covers.. :dont know:

I guess I'll be tackling those soon then..
 
There is no need to do a full stripdown to sort through bolt leaks, a top end rebuild is all that's needed.

We'll that's good news ras62 I thought there was a lot more work involved. My budget can be reduced :lol:

Its always difficult to nail down prices on a rebuild as it depends on what if anything needs replacing. Unit Eleven in Warrington charge about £4.5k plus VAT iirc but this includes new headstuds which many rebuilds do not.
