So finally got around to my big 2019 project, suspension refresh!

Since owning the car, I've been slowly working my way through it correcting all the usual things (http://911uk.com/viewtopic.php?t=128500&highlight=).

I eventually decided on going for an OE M030 kit supplies through Nottingham OPC. Almost went Ohlins to point of placing a deposit at Autosport - but backed out after a rare sensible spell and thinking for the same money what else I can do to it...

Received the box from OPC and on initial inspection I wasn't blown away by the finish the dampers have. No wonder the original ones are rusty and horrible! So, I had them refinished by a local SMART repair guy. They look much better now!

Stripped the rear end of dampers, mounts, roll bar etc and had to wait a few days for the new dampers to be returned to me. Took the opportunity to 'detail" the rear arch, and refinish that as well. Also tried some of that RaceGlaze Alubright - with a bit of elbow grease it's really good and cleans the ally components up a treat.

Just got the rear all assembled with lots of new hardware (makes it much easier!) and torqued up, refitted all the rear seats/carpets. Really pleased with it cosmetically and even gone to the effort of using coilover bags to keep them protected from road rash! (Probably overkill!) Have sprayed some sealer on the new shocks and components as well to hopefully keep everything shiney and clean for as long as possible!

Next up, new 993 RS semi-solid motor mounts, power flex gearbox insert
and the front dampers and roll bar to do before full alignment and geo. Can't wait to see what the difference is! Going on a run to the coast on the next bank holiday so looking forward to 'feeling" the difference then!

Will update when the fronts, motor mounts and gearbox insert are done...

Nice work... shiny!

Will feel great with all that work done.

Was it tricky work to do?

Good work!

Looks so clean 8)

Surprisingly easy - was expecting some bits to be a pain but stripping both sides and reinstalling new dampers and roll bar took less than 2hrs with a tea break! The cleaning/painting took longer!

I expect the fronts to be a bit trickier - depends on how easy all the fixings remove...

Not reusing the original top mounts, and other parts and fixings does make it much easier!

That looks fantastic.

Can you let me know how you got the arch looking so good? What paint did you use and (sorry for being stupid) but what did you use to rub it down?

Finally, how much is the replacement kit going for these days?

Looks great :thumb:

Are the top spring rubbers oem? They look like a different material to new ones i used when I did mine a few years back. Yours look like a polyurethane?

Firstly, a pressure washer! Lots of cheap detergent to help shift the bulk of the grime and various brushes. Then used thinners soaked rags to shift what was left until it was all squeaky clean. Also got one of those 'sonic brushes" which is great for rough surfaces as the bristles get right in to shift everything. Then rinse down again and wipe dry. Basically, just a bit of elbow grease and about 2hrs a side. Mind numbing but worth it if you want to paint it. Then an angle grinder and drill with various wire brushes to remove any loose/flakey material and get to fresh bare metal.

For paint, there's a huge choice but I generally use the Por15 primer. Used it on a few jobs on cars over the years and it's always been great. After that I used the hammerite stone chip base and then had a can made up to match the arctic silver paint code. Finally, the paint shop recommended ProXL 2k scratch resistant lacquer. First time I've used that but it gave an excellent finish. Sealed all with Jetseal 101.time will tell how well it holds up...

Full kit was circa £750 inc Vat with a little discount from OPC.

As for the top spring 'rubbers" these were supplied with the kit. The old ones removed were hard plastic as well. (These hard plastic bits house the rubber spring perch if that's what you mean)

Complete M030 kit fitted now along with 993RS semi-solid mounts. Refurbed the arch's as well like I did the rear.

Wow. Feels so much better than the tired old shocks (70k) that were in there.

Definitely rides firmer but feels better damped?? (Possibly just new vs old damper experience.)

Overall, very pleased with it, guess it will take a wee while for the new springs to settle. I took some measurements at the front so will leave it a week and remeasure to compare then!

So that's all the horrible jobs done on the car now (brakes, exhaust system inc manifolds and cats) all consumable suspension arms and rod ends etc, LTT, millers etc - can start to do some nicer jobs now like steering wheel retrim, front end paint etc! The list never ends

Thanks for that - most appreciated. Mine aren't too bad, just some surface dirt but I like the look of yours and the suspension is the last thing the car hasn't had done (not that it is needed according to my mechanic)
