How on earth you or anyone else can see one sentence as attributing any semblance of blame is quite beyond me. Anybody that has any research at all about these engines knows that borescoring is a design characteristic (or perhaps more correctly design flaw) of the engine.

Really?

The car has an engine that was 'rebuilt' at Hartech (full info given on what was done), having noticed it was smoking the OP had it inspected by a well regarded 911 specialist and it was diagnosed with bore scoring, those are the facts as they've been presented, where is the 'huge insinuation of blame'? Am I missing something?

It's an interesting thread on many levels, I don't see the need for a witch hunt, as always there's a lot that can be learned if no-one puts blinkers on..

I haven't seen any witch hunting. Just people wanting to know the facts around the opening post.

......and lets be honest here, the OP could've worded things a bit different (like his thread header). He even got asked twice to edit it and he hasn't.

Regardless of all that - OP, are you now going to buy the car or not. And whatever your decisions is - why?
 
The elephant in the room for me is that you could pay for an engine rebuild and due to some cylinder marking interpreted as 'bore score' could end up back to square one.

Problem is that interpretation of the pics is subjective.

The topic heading could have read "Hartech rebuild with only 3 replaced cylinders still running perfectly after 5 years and 30K". The majority of readers will not open this topic (having other interests) and so it presently remains a blight on our unblemished record totally unfairly and misinformed.

There are only a handful of people in the World understand this subject and those that don't should not be allowed to post potentially damaging topic headings when there is no substance to them.

It is not subjective to us and if it is to the majority then don't post topic headings as if you know what you are talking about when you do not.

Porsche made these engines with cylinders that crack, and/or go oval, and/or score. Despite miniscule comparative resources we (and some others) provide a better alternative that deserves more respect and more reasonable responses.

Thanks for the support from the majority - it is really appreciated.

We could fit rings that did not polish bores but they would wear out after 50 to 70 K, resulting in oil consumption and reduced bottom end torque - what is the problem with some polish marks and an otherwise long lasting permanent solution that is better than anything else on the market?

As a long time lurker and reader on here and other forums, I came to this thread out of concern that a Hartech rebuild may not be as good a thing as I'd previously thought. As such I think concerns raised above about negative connotations are valid. I've read many of Baz's posts and articles and have learned a lot. The clickbait title seems inappropriate and unfair.

Good to see the car in question has found a new home, too.
