Hello all, I trust your enjoying another long bank holiday weekend !.So I'm still on the hunt for a C4s, I have looked at a few but this one has come up and I've kept my eye on it for a bit its from a garage called Finlay Gorham a 2003 with 105k on the clock, at the moment they are asking £16995 which I think although cheap maybe about right for a tip with those miles?. I haven't made any enquires re bore score but may be worth an ask?.There are two others near me

C4s with 108k for £18995 with Paul Devyea ( good rep), I have spoken to them, they know the car but will not/do not bore scope the 3.6, it's also got the original ims/rms.

C2 with 87k for £18500 with a garage in long field Farrins, this is a really nice 2004,also has the C4s front bumper, lots of history and I believe the ims/rms replaced( I would get it bore scoped !). I like this one but think it's over priced ?...

As always I'd appreciate all views, all the cars are currently on autotrader, I'm sorry I couldn't figure out how to add the link !!!

Cheers

Chris

I'm intrigued by the C2 with a 4S bumper... is it a 40 Jahre?

"they know the car but will not/do not bore scope the 3.6"

 I'd be giving them a very wide berth.

Robertb , no I don't think it is, I just think the previous owner added it, the garage has the original as well so no crash damage etc!..... To be honest on paper and on looks it looks like a great, well cared for and sorted car........ It's just the price, I think it's a few grand over priced, what do you think?

Alex, I get what your saying, when I spoke to the garage they said they knew the car as they had sold it previously, said it was a good solid car .When I meantioned bore score he said they as a garage don't do it on the 3.6??they offer an in house warrenty and as said Paul Devyea are quite a well known indie?...........Alex I like the one at Farrins and they haven't got a problem with me taking it to a local indie to have it checked out

Cheers guys fir the responses

They're not the only Specialist with this policy. Doesn't do them any favours IMHO.

Provided the in-house warranty covers rectifying scored bores, and you have it in writing from them that they will cover the cost of parts and labour of a rebuild if it is found to have scoring in the warranty period then I would be prepared to proceed. Then, get a scope done ASAP.

Re pricing, on the face of it they all look fine in the context of warrantied trade sales, just make sure the other consumables are all in good order... tyres, coffin arms, brakes, top mounts etc. These will add up.

The silver one with the 4S front looks good- though done properly the 4S radiators and fans should also have been changed as they are different.

You should get a PPI including bore scope done by an independent, competent party as a matter of course anyway. I would be worried about a dealer that says the warranty will see you right.

It's maybe £350-400 including a bore scope. If it finds £500 of work (it will do) then you can get that knocked off the dealer price. If it finds a perfect car (it won't) then you'll be so happy you won't care about the £400 you spent :thumb:

Hi Smiffy - I think you are local to me, I am in BR1. The C4S on the Finlay Gorham website is advertised at £17995 so they have either put the price up or you might have struck an informal deal already?

I am sure you have already alighted on the website of Mr 911 in Keston who are nice and local - they have a couple of C4S s at the moment, although in the higher price and lower mileage category, and a few other 996s. I have never dealt with them but based on the reviews might do so if I ever look to sell my c2..... or more lilkely, want a second 911!

Jboy , yes mate I'm down the road in Hayes , I've been to Mr911 but he hasn't got what's I'm after or at least at my price range!.I called Finlay today, the cars back from the work shop, they know the car and have bought and sold it a couple of times to repeat customers. The car has really good history, Porsche stamps and indies, loads of other work carried out including gearbox refurb.Ive told them I've got an Audi A5 black edition to part ex and they are looking into a trade price, the owner is happy no bore score issues but will get indie to scope it for piece of mind and to back up the warrenty !.
So I'll wait for him to get back to me and I will take it from there.Again all views are very welcome!

Chris

Midnight blue looks great. Wheels could do with a refurb, in the pic anyway.

Funnily enough I came from an A5 to my 4S...
