|

My road trip is getting closer, car ships early next month and I'm working through the remaining jobs before it goes.
The one thing that is foxing me so far is getting the luggage in. I was hoping to fit two of those expanding hard shell wheeled cabin bags on the folded back seats, but only one will fit, the other then has to go on top which means it will slide around. The second one will not stand up as there is not enough headroom.
I'd like to avoid ones without wheels/squashy bags as I will have to unload them every night and take them into a hotel, and sometimes the car park will be some distance from the hotel.
What solutions have others worked out if anything?

Maybe remove the seat backs all together for the trip, to give access to not only the flat shelf but also the area under where the seats would fold down? _________________ "911- the guilt-free supercar"

You can get semi rigid (can I say that?) luggage with wheels and integrated handles that is more squishy than hard shell cabin baggage, and might fit better. The other alternatives are that you just have to carry your own luggage, or you only stay in places where they carry your luggage for you... _________________ 997.2 Carrera4S: white over blue, driven and tracked, seldom clean.

quite a few years ago I drove down to Le Mans in the 993. there were three of us in the car and we did not want to stint on essentials like a camping fridge, pillows, decent cooking equipment etc.
The solution was a roof box.
Could be what you are looking for _________________ "I don't know what it is about peace conferences, but they always seem to attract terrorists, extremists and nutterists."

No wheels unfortunately. Not sure if the "exact fit" Porsche cases work in the back of a 993. The boot cases are good if very expensive _________________ 1996 Carrera S Vesuvius Metallic

Unless I needed people in the rear, I’d not be carrying around the unnecessary weight of the seats any how. Even an argument to say it’s more comfortable in the back of a 993 without the seats.
Enjoyed the bit about not wishing to look like a spaz with that custom luggage, I’d go the other way, thinking my luggage was unique, necessitated by the ridiculously cool car I drive. And for all you know, could contain equipment I need for my band _________________ Life's too short for cr4ppy cars, keep it German!

As far as I can tell Hills Alive are no longer in the game. Quite like the look of the ones linked above, and at under £200 not outrageous. Shame they don't have the wheels like the ones they make for the newer cars. Under consideration
Seat removal I'm not sure about. Every now and again they come in handy. If I went down the route of fitting a pair of 996 GT3 buckets I'd pull them out but they seem to look right the way they are right now, and weight isn't going to be that much of a concern in a car loaded up for a road trip.
