Not seen much coverage of this so thought I'd share in case it's useful for anyone heading to Stuttgart for the museum or factory...

Porsche offer a service called Porsche Drive at a few locations in Germany. It's basically Porsches as hire cars direct with Porsche. They offer 1 hour, 3hour, overnight or week-long options.

It might be useful for anyone not wanting to drive over or if anyone wants an longer 'test drive" option.

They have 991 available but are adding 992 into the booking list. With definite 992 availability as of the end of April. All Carreras, cabriolets and Targas, not GT or Turbo. The rest of the Porsche range is also available.

Book in advance as they check license details etc. There is a lumpy deposite but It's a great option if you don't want to drive the 11 hours to Stuttgart but want some in-car time on better roads than the UK.

They program routes into the satnav for you as well apparently, best get them to change the language as well !

Contact and booking terms available here.......

Web: www.porsche.com/drive

I'm using it in April, will report back afterwards.

Mods: not sure if this is the right place for this thread. Ok to move it to the 992 section if that makes more sense...

Used the service this weekend.

Cars immaculate.
very efficient booking and collection service,. Simple 5 minute collection from the desk in the museum and paperwork. Full terms and pricing on the porsche drive website.
Discount for pcgb members.
Route maps covering very comprehensive routes out of Porsche museum into autobahn, a and B roads.
They even changed the language on the satnav ready for us :thumb:
3 hours was plenty of time to see some great villages and roads in the area.

The 992 S we had was a great car, but a bit too digital for my liking. Really good to try out the newer systems like the interactive speed displays, yes it says 'derestricted" on parts of the autobahn and really useful around the towns etc.

Day was damp and flat light so apologies for the poor quality pics.

Usual hire rules, so juice it back up before returning.

Sounds like a fantastic way to spend a few hours, without clicking on the link, can only imagine this sort of thing doesn't come cheap...

£215 for 3 hours with discount. £234 without discount.
£2500 deposit on a card.

Car was very stable and effortless to drive at speed.

Hired 2 991 GTSs and aBoxster GTS from them this time last year and 6 of us headed off round the Alps for 3 days. Many of the passes were still closed but we had a blast. Circa €400 per day for the 991s. Porsche Club Discount is 10% and so membership pays for itself.

Best money we could have spent. Boxster got a puncture on day 3 that we couldn't fix half way up the Grimsel pass. Porsche assist had the car and two lads picked up in about 2 hours and got them on a train to Zurich and a car from there to Stuttgart. All free as includes in the breakdown policy. Then they didn't charge us for the Boxster at all! Zero for the 2.5 days we drove and enjoyed it! Apparently we had a bad experience!

Now that is service!

Mercedes Benz museum worth a visit while in Stuttgart. You could do both museums in a day, but you would be tired.

All sounds bloody awesome. Wonder what her indoors would make of it all. And do they offer baby seats?
